Phoenix-based global technology distributor, Avnet Inc. (NYSE: AVT), announced its CEO appointment after its former CEO, Rick Hamada, stepped down in mid-July.

Interim CEO William “Bill” J. Amelio has been named CEO of Avnet by the firm’s Board of Directors and will be assuming the role immediately, according to a Tuesday announcement.

From 2010 to 2015, Amelio served as CEO, president and a director at an oil-field services firm, CHC Group Ltd. He previously served on National Semiconductor’s Board of Directors and has a chemical engineering degree from Lehigh University and a master’s degree in management from Stanford University.
