California-based Dexcom announced plans Monday to build a 180,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in Mesa for the firm’s continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) business.
The facility will add more than 500 jobs over the next several years, as the firm expects initial manufacturing operations to begin at the new facility by second quarter 2017.
Dexcom chose Mesa as the location for its new facility due to the area’s talented workforce, and the growing healthcare industry in the Phoenix area, said Kevin Sayer, president and CEO of Dexcom.
“Given our company’s growth, and the growing demand for CGM technology, we felt that a significant expansion of our manufacturing capability in this location was a good strategic fit,” Sayer said.
Dexcom is headquartered in San Diego, and Arizona’s close proximity to the firm’s headquarters, and suppliers was another reason for the pick, Sayer explained.
During the College Football Playoff National Championship, Dexcom was one of the firms invited to the CEO Forum by state leaders. The forum allowed executives like those at Dexcom to see firsthand what Arizona has to offer, said Gov. Doug Ducey in a statement.
“Major sporting events such as the College Football Playoff National Championship are a huge opportunity to showcase everything Arizona has to offer,” said Brad Wright, co-chair of the Arizona Organizing Committee and member of the Arizona Zanjeros. “Hosting the CEO Forum programs in conjunction with these events is a very important tool in Arizona’s economic development efforts, and the announcement that Dexcom has chosen to locate in Arizona emphasizes that.”
Cushman & Wakefield represented both the tenant and the building owner for this project. The new facility will be at Broadway 101 Phase III.
