The deadline to apply for health insurance coverage is January 31, 2016, and the Cover Arizona Coalition wants consumers to know that the costs of the health care plans might be less expensive than potential fees for not having health insurance.

Here are a few facts:

•    2 out of 4 Arizonans will pay $50 or less per month for health insurance for a total of $600 annually.
•    3 out of 4 Arizonans will pay $100 or less per month for their insurance for a total of $1,200 annually.
•    The minimum fine for an individual not having insurance starts at $695.
•    The maximum fine for a household that does not have insurance is $2,085.
•    If you are 26, you may no longer be eligible to be on your parents’ plan and need to enroll as an individual.
•    In addition to a potential penalty, treatment costs may also outweigh the costs of health insurance.

To help people enroll, events will be held at two locations this weekend including one at the gymnasium at Atkinson Middle School, 4315 N. Maryvale Pkwy in Phoenix and the other in the gymnasium at Sequoia Charter School, 1460 S. Horne in Mesa.

Both events are on Saturday, January 23 from 9am – 2:00pm and on Sunday, January 24 from 10:00am – 2:00pm. Flu shots will also be available. People can also call 1.844.790-4946 for more information or to make an appointment.

Fines are based on 2.5 percent of household income between the $695 and $2085 fees, and also depends on the number of people in the household.
