Northern Arizona University President John Haeger says he expects growth of the school’s main campus in Flagstaff to slow.
Haeger said NAU’s enrollment grew by about 7,000 over the past decade to its present level of around 19,000, with an average annual growth rate of more than 700 students.
However, Haeger said he doesn’t expect the university to continue to grow at that rate and would be doing well to grow at 150 to 175 students a year.
The Arizona Daily Sun reports (http://bit.ly/1p4KJK1 ) that Haeger told a joint meeting of Flagstaff and Coconino County officials Monday that a projected goal for 25,000 students is outdated.
He said those 5,000 additional students were part of the master plan the Arizona Board of Regents came up with in the early 2000s.
Once the latest on-campus student housing project is complete, the university will be able to house around 9,000 students on campus, according to Haeger.
“We’re in the top 2 percent of colleges that offer on-campus housing,” he said.
