Glendale’s award-winning festival, Glendale Glitters, has been recognized by CBSnews.com as one of the top five holiday light displays in the country. The event, now in its twentieth year, is Arizona’s largest free holiday light display and attracts tens of thousands of people each year.
The city of Glendale was selected not only for the Glendale Glitters display, but also for neighborhood and business participation throughout the city. Glendale is in good company; the other cities on the list are San Diego, Portland, OR, Arlington, TX and Somerville, MA, all cities and neighborhoods that attract thousands of people in their communities with their impressive lights.
“This recognition solidifies Glendale’s reputation that so many Arizonans already are familiar with – that we are a destination point, a place people enjoy visiting for family-oriented entertainment,” said Martin Dickey, special events division manager. “We are thrilled that the rest of the country is recognizing this, too, and it could not come at a better time as we just celebrated our twentieth year for the event.”
The seven-week long holiday light display comes to its conclusion with the Glendale Glitter & Glow Block Party on Jan. 11 from 4-10 p.m., when the 1.5 million lights are combined with 20 glowing hot air balloons and a variety of musical entertainment, which brings out more than 75,000 people in its final evening.
