Scottsdale Charros raise more than $305K for local groups

Scottsdale Charros, a nonprofit volunteer group of business and civic leaders, raised $305,000 that will be used to fund local youth programs, educational scholarships and charities. The Charros’ main focus is building the community by supporting youth sports, education and charitable causes.

Thirty-five organizations were selected to receive donations. Nearly half of the money raised will go to Scottsdale-area youth programs, including $80,000 to Boys and Girls Club of Greater Scottsdale. Just over 15 percent of the sum will go to Scottsdale-based charities, such as Family Promise Scottsdale, which provides emergency shelter and social services to help families move toward independent housing and self-sufficiency. Reigning Grace Ranch, which rescues horses who have been violently abused or neglected, will also benefit from monies raised.

The 55-year-old nonprofit’s volunteerism spirit enlists the participation of many other civic organizations in their programs to aid Scottsdale youth. Without the support of the Scottsdale community, the Charros would be unable to carry out its annual college scholarships and fellowships as well as its annual donation to local charities.

“We are so thankful to our many donors and to those who support our organization through Spring Training baseball,” says Executive Director Dennis Robbins. “With the collaborative efforts of our Charro volunteers, our donors and the many who support Spring Training, the Charros have been able to support these worthy charities in an impactful way to better our community.”

All recipients have been notified by letter of their donation. Check presentations will occur through the remainder of the year.
