MiniCo Insurance Agency has four employees, Dan Sommer, Keith McConnell, Jerry Sollom and Ron Zbiegien, ready to shave their heads March 12, 2011 at 6 p.m. in the Be Brave and Shave event hosted by St. Baldrick’s Foundation at the Skeptical Chymist Irish Restaurant and Pub in Scottsdale. The event will raise money for cancer patients and medical treatment.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives.

MiniCo employees were informed about the event from Tim Kenny.

“Tim Kenny is one of the three co-founders of St. Baldrick’s Foundation and he owns MiniCo,” says Christa Van Zant, Marketing Manager at MiniCo.

“People in the crowd will offer to be a shavee near the end of the event,” Van Zant says. “We will stay as long as it takes.”

According to the St. Baldrick’s fiscal financial report listed October 5, 2010, they raised $21,593,683 in 2010 — their fiscal year from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010.

“There is no selling,” Van Zant says. “There are 10K walks, donations from personal networks such as friends, family and co-workers.”

The source of funds is not done by any mass mailings or telemarketing ventures. Funds are raised by St. Baldrick’s volunteer event organizers, shavees, barbers, sponsors, donors, staff, board members and other volunteers generate 100 percent of revenues.

“There is a location on the website to have funds donated for a specific shave,” Van Zant says. “You will also be able to view their goals, how close they are to those goals, and submit your donation with a click.”

This is the first time MiniCo will participate in the Be Brave and Shave event.

A silent auction will take place during the event with proceeds being donated to St. Baldrick’s.
