GoodyTwos Toffee Company: While Donna Gabrilson and her daughter, Stacey Barnes, may agree that respect and admiration are the secret ingredients to success in the workplace, they differ when it comes to their classic vs. inventive toffees.

At GoodyTwos Toffee Company in Scottsdale, the mother/daughter team combines tradition with innovation to serve a unique range of “doubly inspired toffees.”

Donna started what is now GoodyTwos in 2004 when she began dishing out  delicious toffees at farmer’s markets throughout the Valley. The original toffee, then called Market Street Toffee, was made using her grandmother’s traditional recipe, which remains GoodyTwos’ best seller. It wasn’t until four years ago that Stacey joined her mother in bringing the business to the next level.

“It was a dream come true for me when Stacey approached me and said she wanted to come on board as business partner,” Donna says. “I’m the traditionalist. Stacey is just kind of the more quirky element to the brand, and together it really works.”

Stacey had “larger visions” when she teamed up with her mother: “I really see us having a website, let’s build a national brand, get our own shop,” she said. And that’s certainly what they did.Goodytwos Toffee, Inside, Scottsdale

With a new name, location and color scheme, the GoodyTwos brand took off. The duo moved into a North Scottsdale location – with their own kitchen – and  Market Street Toffee was rebranded and nationally trademarked as GoodyTwos, a process that was much like “giving birth,” Donna says.

Today the GoodyTwos brand is complete with a website, T-shirts, and their signature play on timeless vs. edgy toffee. Four years later, their farmer’s market operation has grown into nationally recognized brand, with the tasty toffees being distributed worldwide.

Stacey and Donna may credit some of GoodyTwos’ success to their decision to rebrand, but it’s very clear that they’re still all about the toffee.GoodyTwos Toffee in Scottsdale

“What makes our product different from other toffee companies is that we still make everything in small batches,” Stacey says, “so it’s all done on the stove, done in small pots, and it’s that quality that makes is different.”

From the minute one steps into GoodyTwos, customers are greeted by piles of toffee, ranging from Donna’s Classic Peanut Brittle to Stacey’s envelope-pushing 2-Alarm Peanut Brittle with cayenne pepper and chili powder. Each bag is hand-stirred, hand-coated in chocolate, hand-packaged and topped off with a “Crunchy Truth,” witty fortune-esque “momisms” unique to GoodyTwos.

The pair now stirs up eight varieties of toffee, all available at the shop, online, or in custom gift boxes. GoodyTwos offers selective wholesale Valley wide. “We’re in La Grande Orange in Arcadia, Smeeks (candy store) in Phoenix … places that tie in with our brand,” Stacey adds.

For the health conscious, GoodyTwos subscribes to the idea of a balanced diet complete with vitamins.  The “Crunchy Truth” at GoodyTwos is that “a balanced diet is a piece of toffee in each hand,” and when Stacey promises that the toffees are packed with “Vitamin L-O-V-E,” go ahead and indulge.
