SRP offers new way for customers to support green energy

Salt River Project is offering a new, simple way for customers to green up their energy through solar and other renewable energy sources via the SRP EarthWise Energy program. The program is attractive to customers who want to go green, but may not have the option to actually install solar systems on their homes or businesses.

Customers can choose to supplement 50 or 100 percent of their electricity use with SRP renewables – a mix consisting of wind, solar, biomass and/or geothermal. EarthWise Energy customers pay 1 cent more per kilowatt-hour for their energy usage. The investment in SRP renewables helps increase production of renewable energy as SRP purchases replacement RECs in the marketplace.

“While renewables are more affordable than ever, they still cost more than traditional resources,” said Lori Singleton, Director of SRP Customer Programs and Operations Support. “With SRP EarthWise Energy, customers can match their household or business use with clean energy, help grow demand for renewable energy and make a difference in the environment.”

SRP EarthWise Energy works with all residential prices plans except M-Power and most business plans. To enroll, simply complete the form at www.SRPEarthWise.com or call (602) 236-4448 for residential customers and (602) 236-8833 for business customers. The online calculator provides estimates of the additional monthly cost with EarthWise Energy as well as the environmental impacts.

Sustainable resources provide 14.5 percent of SRP customers’ energy needs, which is ahead of schedule to meet our target of 20 percent by 2020. SRP also plans to have more than 700 MW of utility-scale generation online by Fiscal Year 2020, which includes solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, and hydroelectric generation.

SRP is a community-based, not-for-profit public power utility and the largest provider of electricity in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, serving more than 1 million customers. SRP also is the metropolitan area’s largest supplier of water, delivering about 800,000 acre-feet annually to municipal, urban and agricultural water users.
