GoDaddy, the world’s largest domain name registrar, launched seven new domain name extensions today, giving people more choices when it comes to finding the right online name. Today’s launch, featuring popular names like .GURU and .PHOTOGRAPHY, brings the total of new generic top-level domain name extensions, or gTLDs, available at GoDaddy.com to 14. The new domain name extensions are part of a rollout to create more options for individuals or businesses looking to attract more customers online.

The domain name industry is expanding from 22 gTLDs, such as .COM and .NET, to more than 700. The Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) plans to release more domain name extensions every week, through 2015. The names released today for general registration at GoDaddy.com are: .PHOTOGRAPHY, .CAMERA, .EQUIPMENT, .GALLERY, .GRAPHICS, .LIGHTING and .ESTATE. The names released last week were: .GURU, .VENTURES, .SINGLES, .BIKE, .CLOTHING, .PLUMBING and .HOLDINGS.

The new domain extensions provide unique alternatives to traditional extensions, expanding the range of choices and unlocking tremendous inventory to better identify websites based on their focus or specialty. The new domain name extensions help people and businesses get a domain name that is easy to remember and specific to their industry, interest, location or more.

“With our soccer brand already established, we are looking to build the go-to online portal for soccer enthusiasts,” said Avanti Sports CEO Michael Clayton. “Our new domain, Soccer-dot-GURU, will give us an opportunity to create an omnipresent community that does not exist today.”

“It can be challenging to stand out on the Web, and domain extensions like these make sure you get noticed because they describe what the website or business actually offers,” said GoDaddy Vice President and General Manager Domains Mike McLaughlin. “This is a historic time in the tech industry, as the new domain variations add more specificity to one’s online identity. These new names are often more memorable and better represent each business.”

In addition to domain names, small business owners can also utilize GoDaddy’s full set of offerings, which range from Website Builder tools and other services that help customers Get Found online, to personalized email addresses with Microsoft Office 365 compatibility and more.
