Arizona Science Center president and CEO Chevy Humphrey has been elected board chair of the executive committee for the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC). ASTC is an international organization that represents science centers and museums in 45 different countries.

The 600-member organization serves to advance public understanding of and engagement with science among diverse audiences. Based in Washington, D.C., ASTC also tracks and analyzes trends amongst science centers, promotes action on global science issues, politically represents science centers and promotes equity and diversity.

As board chair of ASTC, Humphrey oversees the nonprofit organization that provides support to science centers and museums worldwide. Prior to being appointed board chair, Humphrey served as the secretary-treasurer for ASTC and has been an active board member since 2005.

As president and CEO of Arizona Science Center, Humphrey is responsible for overseeing the $8 million organization that has a mission to inspire, educate and entertain Arizonans about the wonders of science and technology. Humphrey also oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of long-range planning in conjunction with the Board of Trustees at Arizona Science Center. Since joining the Center in 1998, Humphrey has served in multiple positions, including COO, executive vice president and vice president of marketing and development.

Under her leadership, the Center has built a strong working cash capital for reserves. Additionally, Humphrey has secured numerous national competitive and prestigious grants for the Center from the National Institutes for Health and the National Science Foundation. In addition to attracting internally renowned exhibitions including Titanic: The Artifact Exhibit, and Gunther von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS 3: The Anatomical Exhibition of Real Human Bodies, Humphrey guided Arizona Science Center through its largest renovation project, $30 million – from planning and design to fundraising and implementation – transforming the Center and poising it for considerable growth.

An embodiment of Arizona Science Center’s mission, Humphrey has great passion for science and learning. Always aiming to inspire youth, Humphrey’s goals for the Center include having a higher impact across Arizona, building thought-provoking content and increasing teacher professional development opportunities.

In addition to serving as the board chair of ASTC, Humphrey is a member of the Association of Asia Pacific Networks of Science and Technology Centers, as well as The European Network of Science Centres and Museums.
