WebPT, a web-based electronic medical record (EMR) solution for rehab therapists, today unveiled ICD10forPT.com — an educational website geared specifically toward helping physical therapists (PTs), occupational therapists (OTs) and speech-language pathologists (SLPs) prepare for the nationwide transition to the tenth revision to the International Classification of Diseases, or ICD-10.

Beginning Oct. 1, 2014, virtually all medical providers in the U.S. must submit diagnostic codes from the ICD-10 code set in order to receive reimbursement for their services. Designed to foster greater accuracy and specificity in the documentation of clinical information, ICD-10 will replace the more than 30-year-old ICD-9 code set.

“The switch to ICD-10 represents a monumental transition for the entire medical community,” said WebPT Co-Founder Heidi Jannenga, PT, MPT, ATC/L. “With approximately five times as many codes to choose from, along with an entirely different code structure, there’s a pretty steep learning curve. But while there are plenty of help resources available to physicians, we found that there wasn’t a whole lot of information out there tailored to the practice of rehab therapy. So, we created ICD10forPT.com to fill that void.”

In addition to informative blog articles, webinars, frequently asked questions and a downloadable checklist, the site offers interactive learning tools such as a quiz, a game and a submit-a-question module. According to Jannenga, the site’s fun, unique approach to educating rehab therapists about ICD-10 is a direct reflection of the WebPT brand.

“This is some pretty dense information, so we really went the extra mile to make it a little more palatable,” she said. “And because we know everyone learns differently, we’ve presented it in a variety of formats.”

Jannenga said the WebPT team will update the site on a regular basis to ensure visitors always have access to the latest ICD-10 news, especially as it relates to the rehab therapy industry.

“The transition to ICD-10 is one of the biggest challenges facing rehab therapists this year, and WebPT is dedicated to making sure they are successful,” Jannenga said.
