Abrazo Central Campus has named interventional cardiologist Nirav Mehta as the medical director of its cardiac catheterization lab.

Mehta is a graduate of Pramukh Swami Medical College in India. He served as chief fellow in cardiology at Creighton University Medical Center in Nebraska. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology.

Mehta will be presenting a free seminar about how to prevent heart attacks from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24. He will discuss how to recognize symptoms and life-saving treatments. A question-and-answer session will follow his presentation.

Coronary artery disease, which is a major cause of death in the United States, is a build-up of plaque in the arteries that restricts the flow of oxygen-rich blood and nutrients to the heart. The build-up of plaque could rupture, resulting in a heart attack or sudden cardiac death.

The seminar will be in the Abrazo Central Campus South Building, Arlene Copley Wellness Center, 2000 W. Bethany Home Road in Phoenix. Light refreshments and giveaways will be provided.
