Steptoe & Johnson LLP hired Sophia Alonso as an associate in the firm’s Phoenix office, who will advise clients on labor and employment issues and has first-chair litigation experience in both U.S. district court and National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) proceedings.

She will practice in Steptoe’s ERISA, Labor & Employment Group.

Prior to joining Steptoe, Alonso was a field attorney for the NLRB in the regional offices overseeing New York City, Arizona, Nevada, and western Texas.

While at the NLRB, Alonso litigated and negotiated settlements of unfair labor practice complaints, and investigated unfair labor practice charges.  She also processed representation petitions and oversaw union elections.  Her experience includes handling cases involving regional and nationwide union organizing campaigns.

Alonso served as a judicial intern for the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania, where she researched and drafted bench memos to the Honorable Sandra Moss.  She also worked as a legal intern in the human resources division of Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Alonso earned her J.D. from the Rutgers School of Law-Camden where she was a certified legal intern for the Children’s Justice Clinic and a student leader for the Legal Information Pro Bono Project.  She received her B.A. in political science from the University of Texas at El Paso.
