Steptoe partner Pat Derdenger has been named Phoenix “Lawyer of the Year” for tax law in the 2016 edition of The Best Lawyers in America©. This marks the second consecutive year Mr. Derdenger has been singled out by Best Lawyers for his tax practice in the Valley of the Sun. He has been listed in Best Lawyers since 1995.
Best Lawyers is based on a peer-review survey in which nearly 80,000 lawyers globally are eligible to vote on the legal abilities of other lawyers based on their specific practice areas around the world. For the 2016 edition of The Best Lawyers in America©, some 6.7 million votes were cast. In 2009, Best Lawyers began designating “Lawyers of the Year” in the United States in high-profile legal practice areas. Only a single lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area is recognized as the “Lawyer of the Year.” The lawyers named as “Lawyers of the Year” have received particularly high ratings in this year’s survey by earning a high level of respect among their peers for their abilities, professionalism, and integrity.
At Steptoe, Mr. Derdenger focuses on federal, state, and local taxation law. Widely recognized as one of Arizona’s top tax lawyers, Mr. Derdenger has been listed in Southwest Super Lawyers for nine consecutive years and in 2013, was selected as one of the “Top 50 Attorneys in Arizona.”
