On February 1, 1875, Pinal County was formed from parts of neighboring Maricopa and Pima Counties in Central Arizona. It is the third largest county, as well as the fastest growing, as the growth from the Phoenix Metropolitan Area continues to spread into the northern parts of Pinal County. This area contains parts of the Tohono O’adham Nation, the Gila RIver Indian Community, the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation and all of Ak-chin Indian Community.
