ASU Gammage Broadway Season 2011-2012 Starting in September, Tempe’s ASU Gammage will be back in full swing to provide some of the best Broadway shows and musicals to the community. With 10 to choose from, one is bound to catch your attention and pull you into a theater seat.

West Side Story

Sept. 27 – Oct. 2
Set in New York City, West Side Story is about the rivalry between two teenage street gangs with different ethnic backgrounds, the Jets and the Sharks. Tony, one of the Jets, falls in love with Maria, the sister of the Shark’s leader. The musical explores social problems during the 1950s, and includes entertaining dance scenes and sophisticated musical lyrics by Stephen Soundheim, including “Maria,” “I Feel Pretty,” and “Tonight.”

Nov. 1-6
With no spoken language during the show, the Blue Man Group is a popular theatrical performance that combines technology, comedy and music to give the audience a unique form of entertainment.

Irving Berlin’s White Christmas

Dec. 6-11
Complete with laughter, dancing and great songs, this musical tells the story of two friends at a Vermont Inn putting on a show and trying to find their perfect mates in the process. Berlin hits include “How Deep is the Ocean?” and “Blue Skies.”

Stomp

Dec. 28-31
Stomp is an eight-member troupe that uses everything from wooden poles, garbage cans, brooms, and hubcaps to give fantastic rhythms for the audience to enjoy.

Jan. 10-15, 2012
South Pacific tells the romantic and enchanting story of two couples on a tropical island during World War II and how their happiness is put at risk by their own prejudices and the realities of war. The well-known score includes “Some Enchanted Evening” and “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair.”

Feb. 15, 2012 – March 11, 2012
Before Dorothy ever dropped into Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One is born with green skin and misunderstood. The other is beautiful and popular. Wicked takes the audience on a journey of how the two girls grow up to be Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.

Green Day’s American Idiot

April 24-29, 2012
With popular songs from Green Day, such as “21 Guns,” Wake Me Up When September Ends,” and “Holiday,” the musical tells the story of three friends who have to choose between the safety of suburbia and their dreams.

Rain a Tribute to the Beatles

May 11-12, 2012
Rain is a Beatles cover band that performs and dresses up as the Fab Four. The band takes audiences through all stages of the Beatles career, from their early beginnings to their hippie days. With historical footage and commercials displayed on video screens, the audience will not be disappointed with how closely the group sounds and looks like the originally British band.

May 15-20, 2012
La Cage tells the story of Georges, the owner of a popular nightclub in Saint-Tropez, whose son brings home his fiance’s parents to meet the flashy pair. As feather boas fly, the show is about one family’s struggle to stay together.

Million Dollar Quartet

June 5-10, 2012
Set in 1956 on a day when Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis are gathered by Sam Phillips to hold one of the greatest jam sessions of all time. Songs include “Hound Dog,” “I Walk the Line”, “Great Balls of Fire,” and “Who Do You Love?”
