Arizona is home to a robust craft brewing industry, and Helio Basin Brewing Company is joining the fold when it opens to the public this Saturday.

The Arcadia-based brewery is opening Saturday, July 16 at 40th Street and Thomas Road where folks can enjoy some local craft beer.

Helio Basin Brewing Company will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., serving six core beers with rotating seasonal brews

The beers include:

  • House beer
  • Blackberry Wheat
  • Pale Ale
  • Hoppy Amber
  • IPA
  • Porter

Helio Basin Brewing Company (HBBC) was founded by two friends of almost 15 years, Dustin Hazer and Mike Conley. Dustin has been brewing professionally for almost 10 years, spending a few of those years at Four Peaks in Tempe and most recently as the Brewmaster for one of the largest breweries in the country, Southern Tier Brewing Co. (Lakewood, NY) for the last four years.

Mike Conley is a former Marine Corps officer and MBA graduate of the W.P. Carey School of Business at ASU. He has spent time working with a couple of very successful startup breweries before committing to starting HBBC with Hazer.

Helio Basin is a name the duo came up with after a lot of pondering.

“Helio is play on the Greek word for ‘Sun’ and Basin is a catch-all or Valley, which we felt was a nice fit for a Phoenix based brewery,” Conley said.

HBBC will have a 15 barrel brewing system on site that will be visible to customers and will craft, keg and serve their beer at the facility. They plan to have 6 standard offerings at all times, primarily American Style Ales, as well as rotating seasonal and specialty offerings to look forward to.

“Quality is our primary focus, top to bottom. Dedication to the quality and consistency of the beer, the food, the service and the atmosphere are all top tier priorities at Helio Basin Brewing,” states Hazer.

In keeping with the concentration on quality, the kitchen will also be held to a high standard. Head Chef Tamara Stanger decided to join HBBC after working in the Valley for several years, most recently at The Henry in Scottsdale. Her menu will be purposely and uniquely concise, yet distinctive, which allows her to focus on freshness and variation with the seasons.

There will be plenty of space in the 135 seat facility, with everything from large social tables for those seeking a more communal experience, high tops for date nights and more traditional tables for those who want a nice quiet table to enjoy their hand crafted food and beer. HBBC will also feature a large space next to the brewing area, which will be available to convert for private parties and charitable events.
