calacas-2Tucson is known for its Southwest-inspired cuisine, Vaquero roots and as the home of the Wildcats, but what many don’t know is that it’s the place to be for Dia de Los Muertos.

On Nov.1, 2016, Hilton Tucson El Conquistador Golf & Tennis Resort will transform into a scene from ancestors’ past as lit candles and vibrantly painted sugar skulls will adorn the resort and beautiful art displays presented by The Southern Arizona Arts and Culture Alliance (SAACA) take center stage in the lobby.

As a part of the largest renovation in the resort’s 35-year history, the newly refreshed lobby bar, Calibri Lounge, will also offer a deadly cocktail for the occasion. The “Calacas” (colloquial term for skeleton) is a spiced chocolate cocktail made with espresso, Patrón XO Cafe Dark Cocoa and Absolute Vanilla Vodka and the glass is rimmed with a mixture of cayenne, cocoa and cinnamon and garnished with a red pepper.

As Tucson’s own version of the Day of the Dead, The All Souls Procession is one of the nation’s largest marches honoring the deceased. As people paint their faces and dress in traditional and vibrant costumes, the two-mile long, human-powered parade ends with a ceremonial burning of a large Urn filled with the hopes, offerings and wishes of the public to those who have passed. At the end of the walk, guests will continue celebrating and enjoy myriad alters, beautiful art installations and creative performances off all kinds.
