Witness a Total Lunar Eclipse from the dark skies of Kitt Peak National Observatory. Observe the Moon rising above Tucson’s Catalina Mountains approximately 11 minutes before Sunset, via binoculars. Then, just two minutes before moonrise, see the eclipse already in action, as program attendees turn west to view a glorious Sunset. Twilight fades, the skies get darker. The Moon rises higher. Earth’s shadow continues to cover more and more of the Moon’s face. Meanwhile, deep-sky objects, are seen with telescopes for an hour under the baleful glow of the dark, red moon.

Also included in this very special Sunday evening program, is an educational presentation on the nature of eclipses. Dinner will be provided.

This event is good for the whole family, so please bring the kids, and dress warmly, with hats, gloves and layered clothing. An educational opportunity like this one comes along quite rarely and shouldn’t be missed. RSVP required.
