Born and raised in Roosevelt, Long Island, Steve White began his career as a comedian and actor when an English teacher at Nassau Community College recognized his gift.  With a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Adelphi University, White has starred in five Spike Lee films, including “Do the Right Thing” in 1989, “Mo’ Better Blues” in 1990 and “Malcolm X” in 1992.  And don’t forget White’s hilarious stand-up comedy shows, where he has been described as a “Morgan Freeman, Robin Williams, Chris Rock, Jim Carrey, and Denzel Washington, all rolled into one.” Check out Steve White performing at Rick Bronson’s House of Comedy in Phoenix from January 28 to 31.  Ticket prices range between 15$ and 20$.

When was the moment you realized you wanted to be a comedian?  
Open mic night at the famous Richard M. Dixion’s White House Inn on Long Island in 1983 my first night on stage.  I did 45 minutes 5 minutes     of my material, 40 minutes of Richard Pryor’s.

What is your best or most embarrassing moment on stage?  
Chuckles Comedy Club in Mineola, Long Island.  Had to take a dump mid set.  Still don’t know whether it was the best or most embarrassing.

What’s the one thing you want people to know about doing stand up that nobody has ever asked you?
Stand up is a job, a precious and very rare job.  Treat it like one!  I’m a comedian, my job is to write jokes.

Richard Pryor

What’s the one thing you wished someone had told you about stand up?  
Failure is only failure if you let it stop you. Fail your way to success!

What’s the one item you never hit the road without?
Lube.

What’s you favorite city to perform in and why?
New York, New York. If you’re good, they let you know it; if you suck, they really let you know it!

Describe yourself in three words?
Fair and balanced.

If you had one day left to live how would you spend it?  
Telling my kids I’ll see them soon and preparing to make God laugh.

What did you do the last time you were in Phoenix?
Lost over $100k. Go say hello to the house I lost on 134th and Shea in Scottsdale!
