Ryan Companies US, Inc. has been awarded Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) Accreditation by the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH) for the Marina Heights project — the 5-building, 2 million square foot project on Rio Salado Parkway immediately south of Tempe Town Lake.
Ryan is one of only two companies to receive this award for construction work in Arizona, as ADOSH had previously only recognized General Industry employers with SHARP accreditation. According to ADOSH criteria, in order to apply for this designation, the project must be a single, fixed, construction worksite, have at least one year of operating history and have injury and illness rates below the industry national average.
Ryan’s submission was accepted and ADOSH reviewed the Marina Heights project during a month-long assessment which included some of the following measures: a four-day site consultation visit, a thorough review of Ryan’s safety manual, emergency action and rescue plan, hazard assessments and inspections of equipment.
Ryan’s Safety Superintendent at Marina Heights, Kyle Schoenberger, and the entire Ryan team are very excited to have received the accreditation. “We strive to make sure that everyone goes home to their families safely every day, having an incident-free and injury-free jobsite, and building a safety culture above and beyond OSHA requirements,” said Schoenberger.
Ryan’s project is a model for worksite safety and health. Marina Heights utilizes OSHA’s on-site consultation program services, operates an exemplary injury and illness prevention program and recently reached more than 2 million safe hours without a lost-time incident. The first phase of the multi-year project was completed last month. Safety has been a main priority every step of the way and will continue to be as the project progresses.
