The U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Mid-Atlantic, Norfolk, Virginia, recently selected Arizona-based Sundt Construction, Inc. as the general contractor for the Bachelor Enlisted Quarters and Central Utility Plant renovations project at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek – Fort Story in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Designed in phases to accommodate sailor and soldier loading requirements, the $26.3 million design-build project includes renovations of three barracks and a mechanical building to bring them into compliance with current building codes, anti-terrorism force protection standards and new housing requirements. Additionally, Sundt will make upgrades to the pumps and chillers within the central utility plant serving the barracks complex, as well as provide structural improvements to the central utility plant’s roof.

The barracks renovation project is Sundt’s fifth project with Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Mid-Atlantic, in the last five years and is expected to be completed in late 2016.

Sundt’s additional work in the military sector includes construction of the Camp Johnson Bachelor Enlisted Quarters at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; Special Forces Ground Support Battalion Center at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; runway improvements at Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico; and a flight simulator facility at Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Arizona.
