Yoga in the Garden
Stick to those New Year’s resolutions to stay fit and healthy by grabbing a friend and heading to the Japanese Friendship Garden for yoga in the garden. Relax while building strength, alignment, balance and flexibility in the garden. Participants are encouraged to bring a towel, water and yoga mat. This event is open to all ages.

Second annual Rock Lottery at Crescent Ballroom
On the morning of January 17, twenty-five musicians from bands around the state will be thrown into the Phoenix Rock Lottery. The lottery will determine five new bands out of the participants. Musicians will not know who their fellow band members are until the morning of the event. The new bands will have the entire day to write three new songs and learn a cover to perform that night. Participants include members from bands such as Jimmy Eat World, Playboy Manbaby and Dead Eyes of London. This event is 21 and older.

“42nd Street” opens at Desert Stages Theatre
The Tony-winning Broadway hit “42nd Street” opens this Friday at Desert Stages Theatre. Following the story of an understudy chorus girl, the musical exposes the obstacles she faces with taking over the spot of the leading lady of a Broadway production. The production includes hit numbers such as “We’re in the Money,” “Lullaby of Broadway,” and the titular number. Reservations are recommended.

Coconino Center for the Arts’ Art Sale
Looking for some new wall décor? The Coconino Center for the Arts begins its 10×10 Exhibition and Sale this weekend. One hundred artists have showcased their work within a frame of 10 by 10 inches. Some artists include Connie Townsend, Sky Black, and Shonto Begay. Prices for paintings start at $100 or will be bid on at silent auction. The viewing opens to the public on Saturday.

Suns host Timberwolves
In this Western Conference matchup, the Phoenix Suns will take on the Minnesota Timberwolves. This Friday night’s game is also the Phoenix Suns Star Wars Night and Orange Friday. Purchase a special ticket to receive a commemorative Death Star basketball in honor of the annual Star Wars night. In addition, the first 5,000 fans will receive a rally towel.
