The San Francisco Giants have partnered with Scottsdale Charros as the beneficiary of its annual fun run/walk this March. Scottsdale is home-away-from-home for the Major League Baseball team, which spends its Spring Training season competing around Phoenix Metro.

To get fans pumped for the ballgames, the team will host the Giant Race AZ on Saturday, March 5, at its home field, Scottsdale Stadium.

While organizers insist the fun run/walk isn’t about which participants win or lose – despite rumblings of a secretive post-run “awards ceremony” – there will be at least one winner walking off the field that day – the Scottsdale Charros (www.scottsdalecharros.com).

Giant Race AZ organizers will donate a portion of registration fees to the Scottsdale Charros, which has been supporting the community through sports education since 1961. Participants who register with the code “CHARROS16” will be donating $5 of their entry fee to the organization.

Through Feb. 29, registrants will pay, respectively, $20, $75, $40 and $50 for the kids race, family relay, three-mile and nine-kilometer races.  Registration in March jumps by $5 for the nine-kilometer and three-mile courses. Additional donations are welcome. Race organizers are also seeking volunteers. More information is available at giantrace.com

The Scottsdale Charros, a volunteer group of business and civic leaders, are dedicated to serving and supporting SUSD students, teachers and schools through a broad spectrum of educational programs. With a history of innovative fundraising, the Charros have leveraged spring training baseball as a chief economic driver in Scottsdale. Funds raised throughout the year are donated back to local charities, making the Charros one of the community’s largest philanthropic contributors.

Last year, the Scottsdale Charros awarded more than $750,000 to local charities, schools and in college scholarships and fellowships. Their strong focus is on education, and as you can see, they do amazing things for the community.
