Arizona Spa Girls Unleashes 2013 Summer Spaaah Series

Arizona Spa Girls is a local business that was launched in 2002 by Lisa Kasanicky. The website and its team of passionate spa advocates provide an informative guide to Arizona’s best spas, salons, beauty and wellness making them the new voices for a new generation of spa-goers.

Talking-Stick-Spa-Relaxation-LadiesThe site offers exclusive spa and salon deals, product reviews, do-it-yourself home spa treatments and a fantastic collection of articles that cover all the important topics of health and beauty. It truly is the little pink book to looking and feeling your best.

Kasanicky says, “Previously, I had the perception that it was just for wealthy people with nothing better to do. Not so! It’s for us “normal” people who work hard and are plugged into too many devices.”

With a writing career that spans more than 20 years, Kasanicky really knows her stuff. For her great work at the “Spastress,” Kasanicky was named among the coolest people in the Valley by Phoenix Magazine in 2008. Kasanicky has developed spa and travel guides from the Arizona Office of Tourism, The Arizona Republic’s family of lifestyle publications and currently contributes to local and national publications.

Summer Spaaah Series

Event guests also receive a certificate to come back to the spa and have a true spa day with a select treatment of their choice.”

Now in the eighth season, the 2013 Summer Spaaah Series celebrates the fantastic vendors of Arizona Spa Girls with eight luxury events packed full of value for both the consumers and the local businesses all mixed in the spirit of charity and celebration. Arizona Spa Girls Celebrates 10 Years In Business, Comments On Growing Spa Industry

Trips to the spa have not only become a vital part of women’s (and men’s, believe it or not) health and wellness, but they have also contributed to the nation’s economy. According to the International Spa Association, from 1999 to 2010, the number of spas in the United States increased from 4,140 to 19,900 and revenue grew from $5 billion to $12.8 billion.

Lisa Kasanicky, founder of Arizona Spa GirlsLocally, Lisa Kasanicky, founder of Arizona Spa Girls, an online guide to spas, salons and beauty and wellness facilities throughout Arizona, can attest to the growing spa industry and increased number of spa-goers. (And this month, Arizona Spa Girls is even celebrating its 10th year in business!)

Why do you believe more women are heading to the spa?

I know first-hand from talking to women who attend our events that more of them are recognizing the true health benefits that come from a day at the spa. While the whole “mind, body and spirit” philosophy sounds trite these days, it’s so true. The spa experience merges the healing power of touch with the peace of mind that comes from shutting off your digital connection to your obligations and responsibilities — even if just for a few hours. More and more women get that. They truly do emerge from a spa day with a renewed sense of gratitude and appreciation — and a glowing complexion and relaxed muscles to boot!

In your opinion, about what percentage go to spas for health- and wellness-related reasons?

In my non-scientific opinion, I would say 99 percent of people go to a spa with health and wellness at the forefront of their intentions. A decade ago, “going to the spa” was more of a mysterious place where only the wealthy flitted off to. Now, spas have become much more accepted as a place to clear your mind, care for your body and skin and spend time reconnecting in an intimate setting with friends or your spouse. Relaxation and wellness go hand in hand.

According to the International Spa Association, men make up about 30 percent of spa-goers. Why do you believe more men are heading to spas?

I think men are seeing women benefit both mind and body from going to a spa, and they want that, too. And they should have it! Wouldn’t the world be a nicer place if we were all able to go to a spa once a month? Even a monthly massage takes the edge off. Heck, even a good eyebrow plucking can give you a new perspective on things.

What spa trends do you foresee for 2013? Will spa-goers gravitate toward specific treatments? Will they be focusing on one area more than others?

I see even the most plush and luxurious of our resort and destination spas getting more high-tech with skincare services. I think we’ll see spas integrating more results-oriented, cutting-edge anti-aging facials using lasers and light therapy. I think — I hope — we’ll see less plastic-looking cosmetic surgeries being replaced with these non-invasive technologies. In the end, though, I think that most massage therapy will remain the most-requested spa service because of our society’s ever-increasing on-the-go mentality.

Summer Spaaah Series, Willow Stream

Arizona Spa Girls Hosts 6th Annual Summer Spaaah Series

Summer Spaaah Series Event, Smartwater

For those interested in having a unique spa experience this summer, Arizona Spa Girls is soon hosting their 6th annual Summer Spaaah Series from May 6th to August 12th. The event series has six separate events to choose from, one of which spans two days at the Mii amo Spa at the Enchantment Resort in Sedona.

Lisa Kasanicky, the founder of AZSpaGirls.com, stated that they’re more than just a website.

“Arizona Spa Girls is a portal to all the salons in Arizona, and over the last decade or so we have also been providing beauty and wellness information and spa recipes,” Kasanicky says.

AZ Spa Girls founded the Summer Spaaah Series in the summer of 2006.

“One thing led to another and it became a way to stir up business for the day spas and resort spas during the summer when it’s just so dead,” Kasanicky says. “They could really bond with the local communities.”

Agave LoungeEvent-goers can expect several exciting and de-stressing experiences at every destination. Goody bags – which are the same bags that Oprah used for one of her VIP events – are given to everyone, as well as a “Spaaah” gift certificate that can be used for one full spa treatment at that spa destination within 30 days following the event. Guests can then enjoy the spa and sample treatments in a party-like atmosphere.

“The party is one thing, and it’s really lovely, but having that spa experience is what I’m really trying to get people to ‘get,’” Kasanicky says. “It’s just so awesome; it’s so good for mental health and physical too.”

This year, the Summer Spaaah Series has new spas in their line-up — including Willow Stream Spa at Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Resort, the last destination option in the event series, joining them for the first time this year. But Kasanicky is excited about one spa in particular.

“I’m really excited about the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa at Wigwam,” Kasanicky says. “We’ve never had an event there before, and it’s just this beautiful place, kind of hidden.”

Wigwam Tranquility Room

Aside from the Summer Spaaah Series being an opportunity to pamper and de-stress, it also provides a way to give to a great cause. The Fresh Start Women Foundation, an Arizona-based non-profit for women, has been a part of the event series from the start.

“We’ve been working with Fresh Start from the very first event,” Kasanicky says. “It’s just a great fit; it’s a good organization. They’re dedicated to empowering women, and I’m all about that.”

Companies such as smartwater, 44 North Vodka, Girlfriend University, Ganem Jewelers, popchips, Beringer Vineyards, NewBeauty Magazine and So Scottsdale! Magazine are sponsoring the event this year, and many of them have been there in the past.

“Ganem…one of our sponsors…provide[s] a beautiful jewelry piece for the raffle, usually about a $1,000 ring, necklace or bracelet,” Kasanicky says.

Five percent of the ticket price and 100 percent of raffles and funds raised during the events will go to Fresh Start, as well as a percentage of any sponsorship for the event. Each event, with the exception of the destination spa, is $125. Those interested in joining the Mii amo destination spa experience can purchase a ticket for $295, for a full two days with accommodations and activities.

“What I want people to understand is that these events are really value-packed, and we give people so much more than just a spa service,” Kasanicky says. “We educate them, we give them the opportunity to donate to a wonderful organization, and we expose them to all these sponsors and their wonderful products.”

For more information or to purchase your tickets, visit the event website or AZ Spa Girls.
