Colliers International Hires Leader in Residential Land Acquisitions and Dispositions

Colliers International Greater Phoenix has named Michael E. Farrar, MBA, MIM, a vice president specializing in residential land acquisitions and dispositions for its Scottsdale office.

Farrar joins the Land Advisory Group, working with landowners, investors and developers to maximize the value of their land assets. In addition, he is serving clients in the sale and leasing of office and retail properties.

Farrar brings more than 20 years of experience in commercial real estate development, entitlements, asset analysis and feasibility. He has experience brokering a variety of properties from single-family lots to multi-million dollar investment properties, as well as the leasing of small retail spaces and large office/warehouse buildings.

“Michael’s versatile industry experience, knowledge of the market and service-oriented approach make him an outstanding addition to the Scottsdale office,” saidBob Mulhern, managing director of Colliers International Greater Phoenix. “Michael brings a steadfast dedication to ensuring his clients’ business objectives are met.” 

Before joining Colliers International, Farrar served as the President and Designated Broker for Coldwell Banker Commercial (CBC) Metro Central for the Phoenix region. Farrar provided strategic counsel and a full range of services to help leading companies create value and manage risk in dealing with challenged real estate and mortgage assets.

“Colliers’ talented leadership, accomplished brokers and positive position in the marketplace attracted me to this dynamic organization,” Farrar said.

In addition to serving as a Carefree councilmember, Farrar is a member of the Carefree Water Company’s board of directors and a member of the Arizona Rental Housing Association.

The native Arizonan holds a broker’s license with the Arizona Department of Real Estate.

Farrar earned double international MBA’s from Thunderbird School of Global Management and the Helsinki School of Economics in Finland. He graduated cum laude from Northern Arizona University’s W.A. Franke College of Business with a bachelor’s degree in international economics.

 

Newmark Grubb Knight Frank Hires Debra Schooler

Debra SchoolerNewmark Grubb Knight Frank (NGKF) has expanded its property management expertise with the hiring of Debra Schooler as  associate director based in Phoenix. Ms. Schooler, who brings 20 years of commercial real estate industry experience to her new position, will oversee management operations for a diverse real estate portfolio in Arizona and will team with local leadership to further develop the company’s investor services platform in that market.

In addition, Ms. Schooler will serve as NGKF’s national healthcare practice leader for property management services, answering clients’ growing demand for healthcare real estate services. In this role, she will partner with the Global Healthcare Services team, developing and deploying a further enhanced national healthcare platform through integrated management services, and ensuring the company is best positioned to meet the needs of clients in this rapidly growing industry sector.

Randy Buddemeyer, president of Management Services for NGKF, said, “We are fortunate to add to our team an experienced real estate professional who not only has a extensive property management background, but also understands the nuances of healthcare real estate and who has strong relationships with major national healthcare and hospital systems.”

Most recently, Ms. Schooler served as the south/southwest director of operations for a national publicly-traded healthcare REIT. In this position, she successfully developed and implemented property management policies and procedures to prepare for the transition of a 12.5 million-square-foot medical real estate portfolio spanning 27 states to an in-house management platform. Previously, she was a regional asset manager with responsibility for a 2.5-million-square-foot medical portfolio which included a TOBY-award winning medical property.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Schooler worked as a third-party portfolio manager for such companies as PM Realty Group, Montecito Medical Management and Transwestern/Voit. She holds an Arizona real estate license.

Newmark Grubb Knight Frank Negotiates 11,000 SF Industrial Sale

Newmark Grubb Knight Frank negotiated the sale of an industrial building totaling 11,000 square feet at 665 E. Morelos in Chandler, Ariz.

Managing Directors Rob Stephens and Dean Busk and Associate Director, Tricia Gumulka, all with NGKF’s Phoenix office, represented the seller, HRM Development Company in the sale transaction.  The 11,000 square foot freestanding industrial property with a yard sold for $1.1 million and is conveniently located just north of the Loop 202 and Arizona Avenue. The buyer, Go2 Logistics, LLC was represented by Jon Hammond at KW Commercial.

CBRE Multi-Housing Private Capital Group Negotiates Sale of Property in Metropolitan Phoenix

CBRE negotiated the sale of Pierson Place Apartments, a 28-unit multifamily property, by ALDA 2011, LLC of Paradise Valley, Ariz. The apartments are located at 365 W. Pierson St. in Phoenix. Brian Smuckler and Jeff Seaman of CBRE’s Phoenix office represented the buyer and the seller, LSREF2 APEX (AZ) LLC of Dallas, Texas, in negotiating the $1 million sales transaction.

Tucker-Gasser Recognized as a Women of Influence

Real Estate Forum celebrates the 20th Annual ‘Women of Influence’ by naming Shari A. Tucker-Gasser, Partner of the Phoenix Sperry Van Ness, LLC office and Multi-Tenant Retail Investment Council Chair of Sperry Van Ness International, among ‘Women of Influence’ in the commercial real estate industry for 2013.

ALM’s Real Estate Forum announced its selections for the most influential women of 2013 in the commercial real estate industry and has categorized the prestigious list by “The Legends”, “Women of Influence” and “Next Gen: Women to Watch”. Senior level women from all over the country were recognized for their contributions to the commercial real estate industry and over 500 applications were submitted.

“Over the course of my 15 year career, I’ve enjoyed being a part of the ever changing commercial real estate industry,” said Tucker-Gasser. “No longer is commercial real estate controlled by the good ol’ boys networks, women today are in many viable roles; they’re running billion dollar REITS, owning brokerage houses and negotiating million dollar transactions. It’s been fun, challenging and rewarding,” continues Tucker-Gasser. “I enjoy sharing my knowledge and mentoring those interested in the commercial real estate profession and hope that in some small way I’ve influenced others.”

Tucker-Gasser began her career in 1999 with a local brokerage company where she was named Rookie of the Year her first year in the business. She was later recruited to the Phoenix Sperry Van Ness, LLC office as an Investment Advisor, and in 2011, purchased the Phoenix office to become one of four veteran partners. During the course of her 15 years in the business, Tucker-Gasser has completed more than $2 billion dollars in retail sales transactions.

Shari specializes in the acquisition, disposition and leasing of multi-tenant retail properties throughout the Phoenix Metro and Arizona markets.
