Signaling a move to expand its Capital Markets platform, Cushman & Wakefield has added a capital markets and commercial real estate veteran to its leadership roster. Bob Kline of RW Kline Companies has joined the firm as Senior Managing Director of the Equity, Debt and Structured Finance Group (EDSF).

Kline was previously CEO of the No. 1 CMBS debt restructuring firm in the world and the leader of the equity/debt advisory team at RW Kline Capital, LLC.

With Cushman & Wakefield, Kline will spearhead a specialized national CMBS advisory practice focused on CMBS debt maturities, assumptions, restructurings and rescue capital. Blending his existing advisory team with C&W’s Capital Markets team, Kline will create the largest CMBS debt restructuring practice in North America. Additionally he will represent Equity, Debt, and Structured Finance clients with a primary focus on the West. He will work closely with the Phoenix, Los Angeles and Dallas offices, and will also assist in other regions where he has been active.

Jay Quinn also joins Cushman & Wakefield as Managing Director – Capital Markets Equity, Debt, and Structured Finance Group. Quinn has more than 30 years of experience focused on commercial real estate debt and equity, diversified investments, portfolio management and structured finance. He was previously with RW Kline Capital, LLC.

As CEO of RW Kline Companies, Kline operated five vertical operations with 60 associates and 11 offices. He has facilitated more than 600 note sales, acquisitions and more than $8.7 billion in restructurings.  He and his Capital Markets team at RW Kline Capital placed more than $3.1 billion in capital in the commercial real estate markets in the past 18 months.

California investor buys retail plaza for $11.9M

Cassidy Turley announced that Amargosa Palmdale Investments, LLC of Beverly Hills, Calif., purchased Southern Plaza, a ±75,233 square foot neighborhood shopping center located at 6036 S. 7th Avenue for $11.9 million.

“Southern Plaza offered the buyer the opportunity to own a stabilized, high-volume grocery center with the potential to add value through ground leases or development of additional outparcels,” Schubert said. “The Food City performs very well and currently accounts for over 73% of the center’s total square footage.”


Built in 2007, Southern Plaza was 95.3% occupied at the time of sale. The property is anchored by a ±55,014 square foot Food City (Bashas’) grocery store and includes ±20,219 square feet of additional shop space and two developable pads. In addition to Food City, Southern Plaza’s tenant mix includes Payless ShoeSource, Grand Mart, Pizza Patron, AA Insurance, Rapido Tax and locally owned operators of a hair salon, nail salon and dentist. Southern Plaza is located in densely populated trade area that services over 102,000 residents within a three mile radius of the center.

Dennis Desmond leads the investment sales practice within the Capital Markets Group of Jones Lang LaSalle’s Phoenix office, specializing in office investment sales for institutional clients and private owners of real estate.

ACTIVITIES: Baseball games and time with my grand kids.
DESTINATIONS: I’m Irish, so Ireland tops my list. My favorite spots are Kinsale and Dingle. Both are small, picturesque coastal seaport cities.

What did you think you’d be when you were growing up?:
A major league center fielder. My goal was to play in Yankee Stadium. I fell a little short — played minor league ball for two years for the Coos Bay/ North Bend A’s.

What accomplishment are you especially proud of?:
Our children (son, Ryan, 34; daughter, Megan, 32). They are wonderful people.

What would people be surprised to know about you?
I’m a two-time cancer survivor of Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. I was diagnosed 15 years ago and told there was no cure. My advice to others: “Enjoy every day.” Desmond also served 8 years as a special agent in the U.S. Secret Service. In between protection assignments, he investigated forged U.S. Savings Bonds and worked in Washington, D.C., during Watergate.
