Walmart Neighborhood Market to anchor Marketplace at Central

Marketplace at Central announced that Walmart Neighborhood Market will become its anchor tenant, opening a 43,619-square-foot location for June. Marketplace at Central is located at the Southeast corner of Central and Dunlap Avenues on 111 E. Dunlap Ave. Phoenix, AZ.

Whitestone focuses on value creation in its centers, creating communities within their properties. “The addition of Walmart Neighborhood Market rounds out Marketplace at Central as a retail destination that offers visitors a one-stop shop to many of their shopping and dining needs,” said James C. Mastandrea, Whitestone’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Because of Walmart’s reputation and standing as a Fortune 100 company, we have confidence this concept will do well and be a part of this community for years to come.”

Walmart Neighborhood Markets were designed in 1998 as a smaller-footprint option for communities in need of a pharmacy, affordable groceries and merchandise. Walmart Neighborhood Markets offer fresh produce, meat and dairy products, bakery and deli items, household supplies, health and beauty aids and a pharmacy.

Marketplace at Central, located at the Southeast corner of Central and Dunlap Avenues, joins other national retailers including Ross Dress for Less, Sally Beauty Supply, Dollar Tree, Little Caesar’s Pizza, H&R Block and The UPS Store.

Tour Historic Homes on Windsor Home Tour

Windsor Square Historic District’s 2014 Home Tour will be held Sunday, March 30. Located at Central Avenue and Camelback Road in the central corridor of Phoenix, Windsor Square is one of the most sought-after historic neighborhoods in Arizona and was recently recognized by CNN Money Magazine as one of the ten U.S. ‘Best Big City Neighborhoods to Live In’. Presented by the Windsor Square Neighborhood Association, the biennial Historic Home and Garden tour is a self-guided walking tour featuring 12 historic homes, a beautiful garden, plant societies and a beer garden.

The breathtakingly beautiful Windsor Square neighborhood is rich with history with many homes that are 60 to 75 years old. Started in 1929, the 260-home neighborhood is considered to be one of the first few suburbs of the city of Phoenix.

From contemporary or traditional interiors to lush gardens and the latest in transitional styles, attendees will see firsthand how people live in these historic, yet modern homes. Plus, learn new interior decorating ideas and see unique approaches to the outdoors.

The tour and festivities run from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will give enthusiasts a look at unique architectural styles in homes that date back to the 1930 and 1940’s. During the self-guided walking tour, participants will also be able to explore fine arts and crafts from street vendors, enjoy delicious fare from food trucks and hear live music. The cost for the tour is $15, and children under 12 are free.

“The residents of Windsor Square take great pride in their neighborhood and every other year we open our doors to share the rich history of our North Central Phoenix neighborhood with the public,” said Historic Home Tour Committee Chair and Windsor Square resident, Jeffrey Long. “This year’s will be one of our best tours yet with a wide variety of homes, a beer garden and a fantastic choice of street vendors featuring everything from food trucks to unique gifts and crafts to home improvement services.”

Tickets will be available for purchase online in advance of the tour at www.windsorsquarephoenix.org as well as day-of-tour at Orange and 2nd Street, which is located one block east of Central Avenue and just north of Camelback Road. Discount of $1 for attendees who show light rail tickets for the day. Free parking will be available.

The class will be led by IM=X Pilates Master Trainer, Chanda Fetter, who has personally led more than 4,000 mat Pilates classes.

Participants of all ages and skill levels are welcome to bring their mats and water and join in this exciting event. Arrival is encouraged at 8am with the hour class beginning at 9:30am. There will be live music, food and vendors in the park following the class from 10:30am to noon.

“It’s going to be an exciting morning in Downtown Phoenix and the record will be measured at a point during the class when everyone is participating,” said Celine Hacche, marketing director of CityScape Phoenix. “Health, wellness and bringing the community together are big priorities for us at CityScape and we’ve had great success in our free fitness classes that change on a seasonal basis.”

During the class, guests will learn proper technique, tone, strengthen and improve their body and working abs, buns and thighs. This event is free and open to the public.

Every Saturday morning since March 16, CityScape has been hosting “Pilates in the Park”, offering free Pilates classes at Patriots Square Park leading up to this world record attempt.
