Cavan Commercial leases 7.5 acres at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport

Commercial Properties, Inc. (CPI) announced the land lease of approximately 7.5 acres for the future development of approximately 100,000 SF multi-tenant industrial buildings located on the corner of Sossaman Road & Velocity Way and just south of the airport terminal. Leroy Breinholt and David Bean of CPI’s Tempe Industrial Group represented both Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and Cavan Commercial, and will retain the lease listing of the completed project.

Michael Merk, Director of the Phoenix Mesa Gateway Authority commented, “Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is one of the fastest growing regional hub airports in the U.S., flying over 1.45 million passengers annually.  Currently it’s home to Allegiant Airlines, Arizona State Polytechnic University, Chandler Gilbert Community College.”

Breinholt and Bean are working closely with Cavan Commercial consulting on the proposed designs of the multi-phase industrial project which is starting construction in early 2015.  LGE Design Group is going to design and build the project which includes more expansion options in the future.

Merk added, “According to population and growth estimates from the Maricopa Association of Governments, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and surrounding areas will boast over 100,000 new jobs by 2035, making it one of the largest employment centers in the state of Arizona.”

Dale Cavan, of Cavan Commercial, commented, “We are excited to expand into this rapidly growing submarket in Arizona which needs new product to meet increasing demand.  We identified the need for more manufacturing space as available inventory continues to shrink and rental rates climb higher.  Along with the prospect of bringing more jobs, this project will offer new tenants industrial/office suites with truckwells, secured storage yards, and large grade level doors, which are highly sought after in this product type.”

Avnet Tech Games Winners Announced

Avnet, Inc., a leading global technology distributor, announced the 2014 winners of the Avnet Tech Games. Close to 200 students from Arizona community colleges and universities competed head-to-head for top honors in the Avnet Tech Games Arizona onsite competition on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at The University of Advancing Technology in Tempe. In addition, college students competing on a national level in the Spring Virtual Avnet Tech Games had their work displayed and winners were announced during the awards ceremony at the onsite competition. Thirty winning students collected $1,000 each in scholarship money.

A panel of judges including technology executives, engineers and other business leaders selected the winners based on the students’ ability to meet the technical requirements of a task, apply innovative approaches to the solution and demonstrate professional skills. Nearly 76 teams of students competed in the onsite and virtual Avnet Tech Games, including 8 Arizona community colleges and universities: Arizona State University, ITT Technical Institute, seven Maricopa County Community Colleges, Northern Arizona University, The University of Advancing Technology and University of Arizona.

“The Avnet Tech Games provide a great opportunity for students to test their technical and strategy skills by applying what they have learned in the classroom to real-life scenarios,” said Joal Redmond, vice president of public relations for Avnet, Inc. “Students also had the opportunity to improve their communications skills by participating in a networking workshop and then practice those skills by meeting with Avnet and sponsor executives during a networking hour. Students win, schools win and business wins with the Avnet Tech Games.”

The annual multidisciplinary technology competition, composed of eight separate events, required students to work in teams to test their knowledge, creativity, decision-making, problem-solving and technical skills. During the event, students showcased how they can make a difference in advancing business and improving quality of life by participating in competitions such as creating a solar-powered water-pumping system, racing to build a computer using refurbished parts and troubleshoot issues in the Windows 7 operating system.

Sundt Construction Breaks Ground on CGCC Campus

Construction is underway on a new student services and athletics facility at Chandler-Gilbert Community College’s Pecos Campus that will serve as a gathering place for the community, Sundt Construction announced Monday.

Sundt was hired as the construction manager at risk (CMAR) for the $21M project, which includes a new two-story multi-purpose building, upgraded sidewalks, landscaping, concrete benches and parking lot renovations. The 70,000 SF building will include a “one-stop” student services area, a 2,500-seat arena surrounding a 10,000 SF gymnasium, fitness center, athletic offices and locker rooms, classrooms and testing facilities, administration offices and conference rooms.

“This project is not only significant for the students and faculty of Chandler-Gilbert Community College but also for the community as a whole,” said Sundt Project Manager Chris Tinney. “With the large amount of space in the arena, the community will have a place to come together for special events and athletic competitions. It will serve as the front door to the college, in terms of location, appearance and function.”

The Coyote Center’s innovative design, which includes raised access flooring and movable partitions, will allow the college to adjust its space to the rapidly changing technology associated with higher education. Other features include taping and treatment areas with hydrotherapy and an expansive performance area, featuring a four-lane, 60-meter sprint track and other turf areas for outdoor training.

The Pecos Campus is located at 2626 E. Pecos Rd. in Chandler.
