Off Madison Ave opens offices in LA and Boulder

Off Madison Ave, an integrated marketing communications agency, will be expanding to Los Angeles and Boulder, Colorado, with the opening of two new offices.

Founded in 1998, the agency has established a significant presence in the West with notable clients in key markets throughout the region. Opening offices outside of its Arizona headquarters is a strategic next step for Off Madison Ave and comes on the heels of several acquisitions in recent years.

“Broadening our footprint has always been part of our vision,” said David Anderson, CEO of Off Madison Ave. “Los Angeles and Boulder are markets that align well with our core capabilities and offer significant opportunities for our clients and our staff.”

Opening offices in these locations is a natural fit, with both Los Angeles and Boulder boasting reputations as major hubs for established businesses and innovative startups. The expansion also allows the agency to leverage its three locations to strengthen its service offerings across all disciplines, especially in the digital and media space. Los Angeles is the second largest designated market area (DMA) in the United States, and Phoenix and Denver fall into the top 20 DMAs.

According to Off Madison Ave Chief Creative Officer Roger Hurni, having a presence in Los Angeles and Boulder will provide the agency with deeper insights into the changing marketing and advertising landscape.

ASU honors top ASU-bred entrepreneurs

Arizona State University has been gaining a nationwide reputation as a breeding ground for entrepreneurs. Accordingly, next week, the W. P. Carey School of Business at ASU is holding its first-ever Sun Devil Select event, to honor some of the country’s top ASU alum-owned and alum-run businesses. Seventeen firms from a variety of industries will be recognized for their achievements.

“We’re honoring organizations that demonstrate innovation, growth and entrepreneurial spirit,” explains Sidnee Peck, director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at the W. P. Carey School of Business, which is hosting the event. “The inaugural Sun Devil Select class includes firms from Chicago, the Los Angeles area, Kansas City, Dallas and the Phoenix area.”

The winning firms and alums are:

  • Betablox – Weston Bergmann is an angel investor and the founder and chief executive officer of this Kansas City-based group that helps select startups navigate through their first stages of business.
  • Dunn Transportation – Margaret Dunn is founder and president of this transportation company, which owns Scottsdale’s popular Ollie the Trolley and an executive coach service.
  • Fan Interactive Marketing – Joel McFadden serves as chief operating officer for this California firm specializing in customer relationship management, interactive marketing, database knowledge and email deployment.
  • FSW Funding – Robyn Barrett is the managing member of Factors Southwest, LLC, an independently owned factoring firm in Phoenix that helps small to mid-size businesses to secure funding.
  • Higher Ed Growth – Frank Healy is president and chief executive officer of this Tempe company that helps schools reach enrollment goals by using proprietary technology.
  • Homeowners Financial Group USA – William Rogers is chief executive officer of this family-oriented, award-winning mortgage company based in Scottsdale.
  • Infusionsoft – Marc Chesley serves as chief technology officer for this Chandler-based sales-and-marketing software firm recognized by Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest-growing private companies in the United States eight years in a row.
  • itSynergy – Michael Cocanower is founder and president of this Phoenix IT consulting firm with more than 200 clients.
  • Off Madison Ave – David Anderson is co-founder and chief executive officer of this Phoenix-based marketing and advertising firm with clients that include Nike and LifeLock. 
  • Print.Save.Repeat. – Errol Berry is co-founder and chief executive officer of this Chandler toner-cartridge manufacturer that focuses on recycling and saving businesses money on printing.

  • Signature Technology Group – Charles Layne serves as president and chief executive officer of Phoenix-based STG, which provides data-center services that support more than 300,000 devices across North America.
  • Skin Script Skin Care – Lisa VanBockern is the owner of this Tempe skin care company that makes natural clinical products designed to address anti-aging, sun damage, acne and other issues.
  • Skyhook – Dallin Harris is founder and chief executive officer of this Mesa-based Internet marketing firm that has worked with clients including AT&T, Subway and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
  • Tiempo Development – Cliff Schertz is president and chief executive officer of this Tempe company that provides software firms with an integrated platform of services to accelerate how they develop, deploy and support their products.
  • Vetscience/Fruitables Pet Food – David DeLorenzo serves as president of this Dallas company that makes natural dog treats.
  • Western Window Systems – Scott Gates is president and chief operating officer of this Phoenix-based window and door manufacturer that has been making energy-efficient products for more than 50 years.

The Sun Devil Select Class of 2015 will be recognized at a special invitation-only luncheon on ASU’s Tempe campus on March 20. They will reconnect with their alma mater and spend time networking with each other and current ASU students, including some budding entrepreneurs. They will also meet Amy Hillman, dean of the W. P. Carey School of Business; Christine Wilkinson, head of the ASU Alumni Association and ASU senior vice president and secretary; and Mitzi Montoya, vice president and university dean for entrepreneurship and innovation.

Sun Devil Select is just one focus of the Center for Entrepreneurship, which helps hundreds of businesses each year. The center offers companies the chance to recruit and meet with top student talent, while also allowing students to get hands-on business-creation experience. Off Madison Ave Acquires Gordon Galloway

Phoenix-based marketing communications firm Off Madison Ave announced today its acquisition of Gordon Galloway, an integrated agency specializing in the casino gaming and entertainment industries.

This is Off Madison Ave’s second acquisition in recent years – the firm acquired digital powerhouse Mighty Interactive in 2005 – and comes on the heels of a strategic merger with interactive and creative shop SpinSix late last year.

“We are continually seeking out acquisition targets as part of an aggressive growth strategy,” said David Anderson, CEO of Off Madison Ave. “The Gordon Galloway purchase complements our travel and tourism practice, and provides an opportunity for future expansion beyond the Arizona market.”

Founded in 2010, Gordon Galloway works with several premier entertainment, gaming and resort enterprises, including Casino Del Sol in Tucson, Ariz., and the Little River Casino Resort in Manistee, Mich. Other notable clients include The Grand Belize Entertainment Group, Capital Processing Network and Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock.

Seven Habits of Seven Successful Arizona Entrepreneurs

Everyone wants to know the secrets to succeeding in business. Most agree hard work and intelligence are a given.  But what about those attributes that cannot be taught in school or by working long hours?

Entrepreneurs are a breed who typically embody qualities that make up a successful business person. They tend to be risk-takers, passionate, altruistic and confident. They avoid getting stuck in a rut. Entrepreneurs turn what other see as obstacles in to challenges, and ultimately, opportunities. They are relentlessly positive.

In addition to possessing some of these qualities, entrepreneurs usually have a rule, philosophy or ritual they live and breathe each day. This can be anything from beginning the day in a positive way to how they treat anyone the come into contact with. As an entrepreneur myself, I have learned the importance of working “on” my business and not just “in” the business.  By this I mean you must treat your business like we treat our clients and must make time to focus on our strategic planning and growth.

Discipline is one of my biggest rules in business which also translates into my Ironman training. Unless you have a vision or goal, develop a plan and have the discipline to execute day after day then it is very easy to become distracted, lose focus and not achieve anything. At Steve LeVine Entertainment and Public Relations, we have 2 rules that we use in our office on a daily basis.

1. Never assume anything.  When we assume we are taking a chance to get something wrong. If we never assume, and double check our work, we are less likely to have mistakes and the final product is always better.

2. Take responsibility for your actions. If you know and admit your mistakes, I have found that this helps future mistakes. Also, a client wants to hear us take responsibility rather than pass the blame on to someone else.
