Fall Furniture Fashion Week presented by Feathers and Fashion by Robert Black.

Furnishings And Fashion Intertwine At Fall Furniture Fashion Week

In the spring and summer, neon hues and color blocking were prominent themes and trends in the fashion world. Patterns, mixing prints, and even adding lace for a touch of vintage were popular, too; but these trends weren’t limited to the clothing tucked into fashionistas’ closets. They trickled into the furniture and interior design world, splashed onto walls, fabrics, furnishings and more.

According to Robert Black, owner of Fashion by Robert Black in Scottsdale, fashion and furnishings are quite connected.

To emphasize just how strongly linked furnishings and fashion are, Fashion by Robert Black and Feathers Fine Custom Furnishings are partnering up for a free, week-long event of design-related presentations and new product introductions. The event is aptly named Fall Furniture Fashion Week.

Taking place at Feathers’ showroom, new furniture designs and single spaces by Feathers will be on display. Attendees will also spot vintage pieces from Fashion by Robert Black in the showroom throughout the week.

Speakers at Fall Furniture Fashion Week will cover topics related to textile design, furniture styles, wall finishes/papers, art and accessories, furniture design and manufacturing, draperies, fashion-influencing interiors, color psychology and trends, and more.

One speaker in particular, Barbara Kaplan, will be covering color discovery and how color influences and impacts one’s life and home. This will take place on Saturday, Nov. 10., and on Thursday, Nov. 8, she will also be on a design panel with Black and Jeff Low, Scottsdale designer of some of the nation’s top nightclubs (Pussycat Lounge), lounges (Six), restaurants (La Bocca in Tempe) and hotels (W Scottsdale). They will be discussing fashion, art and interiors.

Fall Furniture Fashion Week will take place Tuesday, Nov. 6 through Saturday, Nov. 10. Two presentations will be held daily, one at 10 a.m. and one at 2 p.m.

Feathers Fine Custom Furnishings & Fabrics

Feathers Fine Custom Furnishings & Fabrics: Owner and founder Dan Levinson tells us how Feathers’ showroom and products are both timeless and unique.

Who is the showroom designed for?

The showroom is designed for the general public and the design community. It displays about 20 to 30 vignettes and rooms for design ideas and inspiration. The showroom has examples of custom designs of upholstered furnishings, drapery, bedding, pillows, case goods, accessories and custom cabinetry. We display more than 2,000 bolts of fabric, and we have an incredible library of fabric books.

What products and services does Feathers offer?

We offer “Timeless designs specializing in custom upholstered furniture, window treatments, bedding ensembles, case goods, cabinetry and accessories.”
Our staff will assist homeowners in designing their interiors from a simple pillow to the entire house of furnishings, window coverings, case goods and cabinetry. We manufacture everything in our workrooms. Everything is manufactured and installed by Feathers, all of our custom furnishings are made by us and nothing is contracted out.

What’s one item in the showroom you love to show off?

FeathersWe love to show off our workrooms. The showroom is so elegant that no one expects to see all of the work being done on site. The workrooms are located at the very back of the showroom, and upstairs is our drapery workroom. We will also drive clients down the street from the showroom and show them where the furniture gets built and stained. The one thing we do that is very unique with the workroom is the ability to have clients inspect the furniture while it’s being worked on as well as sit test to insure they are getting exactly what they want.

How is your showroom unique?

The most unique thing is that almost everything that is on display is built by us. The showroom is designed like a beautiful home. The one comment we hear most is people will say, “Just bring the showroom home; we want our home to look like your showroom.”
