APS Fund provides grants to first responders

First responder agencies in Arizona now have the opportunity to apply for grants through a new APS Fund within the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The fund, seeded with $50,000 from APS, is available to agencies within APS’s service territory throughout the state and provides the opportunity to procure much needed life-saving equipment.

“We have always been supportive of our first responders and we value the lifesaving work they do every day,” said Tina Marie Tentori, Executive Director of APS Corporate Giving. “We are excited to partner with Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to help ensure our first responders have the latest technology and equipment to save even more lives.”

Interested agencies can apply for funding from the APS Fund starting on July 1, 2014 through September 5, 2014. Grant applications can be completed via FirehouseSubs.com/Foundation. Applicants will be notified of their status after Sept 17, 2014.

“Since 2005, we have awarded more than $237,000 in grants to Arizona based first responders and we are thrilled that APS made this investment in their community to expand our reach even further,” said Robin Peters, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Executive Director.

Donate Water For Free Firehouse Subs

Firehouse Subs is launching the first H20 for Heroes program on Saturday, Aug. 4, at seven Phoenix area restaurants as well as Tucson. To cut the heat and sub cravings, restaurants invite the community to donate one case of bottled water in exchange for one free medium sub. The bottled water collected will be donated to local fire departments and distributed throughout the community to children, elderly and those in need of water during the scorching summer months.  An average of 119 people die annually due to extreme heat conditions in the U.S. With temperatures soaring up to 121 degrees in Phoenix during the summer and an average of 76 consecutive days with 100 degrees or more, water is considered a life-saving tool.

While this initiative represents the efforts of local franchisees, the Firehouse Subs brand is familiar with giving back. In the past four years, more than $80,000 has been donated to public safety entities across the state of Arizona through Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

Restaurants participating in H20 for Heroes include:
Arcadia Plaza, 2836 E. Indian School Rd. (Phoenix)
Park San Tan, 3245 Ray Rd. (Chandler)
Stapley Center, 1616 S. Stapley Dr. (Mesa)
Dana Park, 3420 E. Baseline Rd. (Mesa)
McKellips Marketplace, 1829 N. Power Rd. (Mesa)
Glendale Arrowhead, 20165 N. 67 Ave. (Glendale)
Queen Creek Crossroads, 20851 E. Rittenhouse Rd. (Queen Creek)
Marana Marketplace, 3844 W. River Rd. (Tucson)

Firehouse Subs favorites include the Hook & Ladder® piled high with Smoked Turkey and Virginia Honey Ham smothered with Monterey Jack cheese and the New York Steamer, inspired by New York delicatessens, combining corned beef brisket and pastrami topped with Provolone.  All large Specialty Subs boast a half-pound of meat.

Firehouse Subs, founded in Jacksonville, Fla., by former firefighting brothers Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen, is a 521-unit fast casual restaurant chain. Firehouse Subs offers oversized portions of premium hand-sliced meats and cheeses, steamed to make the flavors burst, then piled high with fresh produce atop a toasted sub roll. The restaurants reflect the authentic firefighter heritage of the founding family’s 200 years of firefighting service.

In 2005, Firehouse Subs created the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation with the mission of providing funding, life-saving equipment, and educational opportunities to first-responders. Through the non-profit 501(c)(3), Firehouse Subs has given $4.5 million to hometown heroes, in 31 states.
