Bridal expo, punk rock + things to do this weekend

Here are some of our top things to try this weekend. Though we’re sad to say we can’t help you choose between the Jason Mraz and Ed Sheeran concerts on Saturday.

8/29: Tim Meadows
Tim Meadows was one of the longest running cast members on Saturday Night Live with 10 seasons under his belt and a number of movie and television roles since then. His character Leon Phelps, aka “The Ladies Man,” was adapted into a film in 2000. The impressionist and seasoned comedian will deliver his brand of comedy in among one of the best clubs in town this weekend.
Stand Up Live, 50 W. Jefferson St., Phoenix, Friday, August 29, 7: 30 and 10 p.m., $22

8/29: The Offspring
Offspring has been playing punk-rock for decades. The Huntington Beach-based band first found mainstream success in the ‘90s with its third studio album, Smash, which will be played in its entirety at every show for the first time to celebrate the album’s 20th anniversary.
Mesa Amphitheatre,  263 N. Center Street, Mesa, Friday, Aug. 29, 5 p.m., $42

8/30: Phoenix Cooks! 2014
Chefs from around the Valley will come together to cook for a day-long event that will cater to the foodies of Phoenix while benefiting Banner Children’s Hospital. The event will have food, drinks and cooking classes hosted by some of Phoenix’s top chefs. Chefs will also compete in “Iron Chef” style challenges and share the secrets to how they prepare some of their best dishes.
Westin Kierland Resort, 6902 E. Greenway Parkway, Scottsdale, Saturday, Aug. 30, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., $85 in advance, $100 at the door

8/30: Phoenix Bride Expo
A fashion show, cake sampling and venue shopping are just a few of the benefits to attending the Phoenix Bride Expo. The expo allows brides-to-be to browse through local retailers, sample cakes and catering and plan ahead for their wedding days. Brides receive a complimentary wedding planner workbook when they register in advance and have the opportunity to win prizes such as $1,000 in cash.
Phoenix Convention Center, 100 N. Third Street, Saturday, Aug. 30, all day (times vary?), $12

8/31: Ed Sheeran
He may not have a Grammy yet, but Ed Sheeran has shared a stage with legend Elton John and toured with Taylor Swift — ringing endorsements in the world of pop music. The British performer writes catchy songs with a twinge of darkness, so get ready to dance (and sing along with thousands of Sheeran tweens who saw him with Taylor Swift at Jobing.com Arena not so long ago).
Jobing.com Arena, Loop 101 and Glendale Avenue, Glendale, Sunday, Aug. 31, 7:30 p.m., $50

8/31: Jason Mraz Concert
Two-time Grammy winning fedora with a voice, Jason Mraz, is coming to Comerica Theatre. The singer released his fifth studio album, Yes!, on July 15, surprisingly his first all-acoustic album. Who knew? We thought all his songs were ukelele-powered.
Comerica Theatre, 400 W. Washington Street, Phoenix, Sunday, Aug. 31, 8 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m., $30 to $75

US Airways Center Relaunches Website

In celebration of its 20th anniversary, US Airways Center has relaunched its official website (USAirwaysCenter.com) and is hosting a sweepstakes to give away 20 prizes to visitors of the site.

Between now and July 14, visitors to USAirwaysCenter.com may enter to win ringside seats to WWE’s “Money in the Bank” on July 15, or tickets to see The Fray and Kelly Clarkson on Aug. 1, Jason Mraz on Oct. 2, or Disney’s Phineas & Ferb LIVE in October.
