In conjunction with its 25th year anniversary, Architekton named John Cahoon, John Williams and Harold Gephardt senior associates. After 25 years of practice, this is one of the first in a series of celebratory events that coincide with the firm’s silver jubilee.  Founded June 1, 1989, the firm is known for award-winning, creative solutions to complex projects that balance functionality with aesthetics, and for the firm’s ability to manage strict client budgets and produce high quality architecture.

John Cahoon has been an architect with the firm for 9 of his 26 years in the industry. He has managed the design, documentation and construction of large projects worldwide including master planned communities, university student centers, government projects and religious facilities. A career that spans over 30 years, John Williams has been an architect with the firm for 4 years and follows a design philosophy that is dedicated to ensuring that the architecture is sustainable, hospitable and distinct for the client and the community to which it inhabits. Harold Gebhardt has been with Architekton for 14 years as controller and CFO.

Spielberg Benefit Concert Raises more than $600K

On Saturday September 28th The Phoenix Symphony hosted a Benefit Concert Conducted by John Williams with Special Guest Steven Spielberg. This one-night-only performance was a fundraiser that combined two Hollywood titans, iconic music scores and a selection of unforgettable film clips in order to benefit The Phoenix Symphony’s Education and Community Engagement programs.

This special evening began with a pre-concert reception for Sponsors and VIPs held in the Green Room at Symphony Hall. The private reception featured cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and was attended by 150 event sponsors, VIP’s and members of The Phoenix Symphony Board of Directors.

After the reception, over 2,200 attendees entered a sold-out Symphony Hall for an unforgettable evening of music from the movies. The concert featured selections from some of Williams’ most popular scores including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jaws, Schindler’s List, and much more. This special concert also showcased Steven Spielberg presenting the magic of music and cinema along with a selection of film clips projected over the orchestra with clips from Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Indiana Jones. The concert ended with an encore of the theme to Indiana Jones and a triple standing ovation for Maestro Williams, Steven Spielberg, and The Phoenix Symphony.

The evening concluded with an exclusive post-concert VIP Meet & Greet for 50 people. Champagne and desserts were served as the guests relived and reveled in the magical performance and presentation. Maestro Williams and Mr. Spielberg joined the reception where they greeted attendees, posed for photographs and signed autographs.

Five-time Academy Award and 21-time Grammy Award winner John Williams joins The Phoenix Symphony to conduct an unforgettable evening of music from the movies, featuring selections from some of his most popular and iconic scores, including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jaws, E.T., Indiana Jones, Schindler’s List and more.  During this special appearance on September 28, 2013, acclaimed director Steven Spielberg joins Williams to host the second half of the evening, presenting selections from their remarkable forty-year artistic collaboration, including selected film clips projected on a giant screen above the orchestra. Experience the magic of music and cinema with two great maestros of the movies!

When John Williams and Steven Spielberg met in 1972, Williams had nearly 20 years of film and TV scoring behind him and Spielberg was a 25 year-old television director about to shoot his first theatrical feature. When they agreed to work together, arguably the most successful film music partnership in Hollywood history was born. Their first film together was The Sugarland Express and the partnership has continued over the years with such popular and iconic films as Jaws, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Saving Private Ryan, War Horse, Lincoln and more. Williams has composed the scores for 26 out of the 27 feature films that Spielberg has directed.
