Best Lawyers honors Coppersmith Brockelman attorneys

Coppersmith Brockelman, a business law firm in Phoenix, has announced that 11 of the firm’s attorneys have been recognized as 2016 Best Lawyers®. Among the honorees, James Belanger was also named “Lawyer of the Year” for the criminal defense-white collar practice area in Phoenix, and Kent Brockelman was awarded this designation in employment law-management.

Now in its 21st edition, The Best Lawyers in America is the longest-running peer-review publication in the legal profession. Steptoe’s Pat Derdenger named Phoenix ‘Lawyer of the Year’

GetFileAttachment-7Steptoe partner Pat Derdenger has been named Phoenix “Lawyer of the Year” for tax law in the 2016 edition of The Best Lawyers in America©.  This marks the second consecutive year Mr. Derdenger has been singled out by Best Lawyers for his tax practice in the Valley of the Sun.  He has been listed in Best Lawyers since 1995.

Best Lawyers is based on a peer-review survey in which nearly 80,000 lawyers globally are eligible to vote on the legal abilities of other lawyers based on their specific practice areas around the world.  For the 2016 edition of The Best Lawyers in America©, some 6.7 million votes were cast.  In 2009, Best Lawyers began designating “Lawyers of the Year” in the United States in high-profile legal practice areas.  Only a single lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area is recognized as the “Lawyer of the Year.”  The lawyers named as “Lawyers of the Year” have received particularly high ratings in this year’s survey by earning a high level of respect among their peers for their abilities, professionalism, and integrity.

At Steptoe, Mr. Derdenger focuses on federal, state, and local taxation law.  Widely recognized as one of Arizona’s top tax lawyers, Mr. Derdenger has been listed in Southwest Super Lawyers for nine consecutive years and in 2013, was selected as one of the “Top 50 Attorneys in Arizona.”

Best Lawyers in America: Fennemore Craig

7 Ogletree Deakins attorneys earn honor

Jones Selected as 2014 Lawyer of the Year

Best Lawyers has selected William R. Jones, Jr. as the 2014 “Lawyer of the Year” for Medical Malpractice Law in Phoenix, Arizona. According to Best Lawyers, when an attorney is selected as “Lawyer of the Year,” it “reflects the high level of respect a lawyer has earned among other leading lawyers in the same communities and the same practice areas for their abilities, their professionalism, and their integrity.”

William R. Jones, Jr. is one of the founding attorneys at Jones, Skelton & Hochuli, P.L.C., which began in 1983. Mr. Jones has been practicing law for 52 years and has tried over 250 civil jury cases in Arizona and other states. While he currently concentrates his practice in the medical malpractice area, Mr. Jones is still involved in litigating and trying other types of civil liability cases on an active and ongoing basis. He has served as both the Arizona Court of Appeals Judge Pro Tem and the Superior Court of Arizona Judge Pro Tem.

Jones has passed along the knowledge he has gained throughout his legal career by speaking as a guest lecturer at Harvard University, Arizona State University and the University of Arizona College of Law. He has been listed as one of the Top 50 Lawyers in Arizona since 2007 by Southwest Super Lawyers.
