These outgoing women provide a professional yet fun vibe to any atmosphere hosting corporate parties, special events, modeling for promotional or runway shows.

Meet Scottsdale 16’s Mel Rodriguez, who recently shared summer hair trends with Scottsdale Living.

How did you start modeling?
My parents always said I was photogenic and took me to my first casting when I was a kid to pursue it. I decided not to pursue modeling until I was 17. I started working promotional events, and then started to shoot and fell in love with it.

What type of modeling do you like the most and why?
I love fashion and outdoor shoots. I love to capture the moment and create the perfect pose even when it’s awkward. Print work, commercial and live shoots!

What is your favorite shoot you’ve done?
That’s hard to choose, but one of favorites is a lingerie-angel style shoot with six-feet-long wings. I love Victoria’s Secret’s themes, so that shoot was defintely fun to film and shoot.

What’s your favorite modeling photo?
My shoot for my IMKING.com look book and eating ice cream while posing.

What advice would you give to someone interested in modeling?
Be patient and start a modeling portfolio, which looks professional when applying for a modeling opportunity.  Also, understand you have to shoot a few free/trade modeling shoots until you get comfortable in front of the camera. Never give up, have a great attitude and take constructive criticism well!

What is your favorite place to eat in Scottsdale?
Sushi Roku!

What is your favorite bar/nightclub in Scottsdale?
Maya (Day and Nightclub)!

Meet Jenna Wood, who recently gave Scottsdale Living a few of her favorite swimsuit trends this summer!

How did you start modeling?
I grew up dancing at a studio. When I stepped into the professional dance industry, it was important to have a modeling portfolio. It all blossomed from there once I met the right people.

What type of modeling do you like the most and why?
I prefer print over runway because I’m not among the tallest girls. I like fun and sexy shoots, something tasteful yet unique.

What is your favorite shoot you’ve done?
I did a really amazing photoshoot at an abandoned potato barn a few years ago. It was a huge venue with tons of graffiti and broken glass. We got creative and had a blast.

What’s your favorite modeling photo?
My favorite photo, to this day, is a shoot I did when I was 18 by Benizo. He caught me in a perfect high-kick while wearing heels and a fedora! It’s such a beautiful shot and he is an amazing photographer.

What advice would you give someone interesting in modeling?
I would recommend practicing in the mirror. I grew up in a dance studio so I spent years in front of a wall of mirrors. It’s important when learning your angles and how to use light.

What is your favorite place to eat in Scottsdale?
I think I could eat at Sushi Roku everyday for the rest of my life. It’s definitely the freshest sushi you can find in Scottsdale, combined with a sexy atmosphere and fantastic service. Every time I walk in, they bring me a glass of my usual Malbec!

What is your favorite bar/nightclub in Scottsdale?
If I’m in the mood to get dolled up, I definitely love Maya. It’s a little taste of Vegas and they always have my favorite DJs. If I’m just trying to go out and have a beer, I stay at El Hefe Scottsdale or Bottled Blonde.

Tell us about your career. Do you model as a hobby?

I am a hair stylist. I went to cosmetology school during my junior and senior year of high school so I got a early start. I really enjoy what I do. I am new to modeling and would like to make it into a fun hobby!

Share with us any tried-and-true beauty secrets you have:

Two things that aren’t really secrets, but I have found to be very effective are lots of sleep and lots of water! When you study the rejuvenation effects of sleep it’s amazing.

You’re a hair expert. If you could us one piece of advice for taking care of our locks, what would it be?

My advice right now is taking care of your hair In the summer. Before swimming, wet your hair down with regular water and put conditioner in it so your hair soaks up less of the chlorinated water. Use this technique on your children too.

Will we see you modeling more in the future?

I hope to be doing some more modeling in the future! I had a lot of fun on this shoot. Thank you Scottsdale Living!

Meet the Model: Jennifer Phoenix

Meet the Models spotlights each and every model featured in Scottsdale Living — so you can get to know them better.

 How did you start modeling?

I was approached by a woman a coffee shop when I was 16 and she asked if I would be interested in being a model for Vidal Sassoon hair shows. Since then, I have modeled in numerous runway shows (including Scottsdale Fashion Week), calendars, print ads, and more.

What type of modeling do you like the most and why?

In addition to working with photographers, I have posed for several painters and sculptors. I love posing for artists on fine art projects! It inspires me to be part of the creative process. When collaborating with painters and sculptors, you end up spending much more time together than you would on a typical photo shoot. This gives you the opportunity to get to know each other on a much more personal level. I love hearing other people’s life stories and ambitions. I feel so grateful that I have been able to meet so many amazing and inspirational people during my modeling career.

What is your favorite shoot you’ve done? Why?

That’s a really tough question! I’m not sure I could narrow it down to just one. I have had so many wonderful and memorable shoots…often they are in amazing locations. I have had the opportunity to see so many places I probably never would have seen if it weren’t for modeling. Travel is definitely one of the biggest perks of being a model. I also love the memorable and comical moments during shoots. For instance, I was shooting in a plaza in New York City early one morning and two full-grown men were splashing around in a nearby fountain. They took notice of the shoot and came running over, clothes dripping wet, and asked if they could assist on the shoot. The photographer immediately put them to work with reflectors. Those two were hilarious! The photographer and I still laugh about that today. It’s always an adventure on a shoot. You never know what could happen… people, weather, you name it! Some of my favorite shoots have been just because of the random, crazy things that happen. It’s great to have those crazy life experiences you can look back on and laugh until your sides hurt!

What advice would you give to someone interested in modeling?

I would tell aspiring models to first realize that modeling is not always glamorous. There are plenty of very early mornings. And several outdoor shoots when it’s very cold or hot outside. You won’t always be able to join your friends for that night out on the town if you have a shoot in the morning and need to look fresh and rested. You need to take care of yourself, which means eating right and exercising regularly. The other piece of advice I would offer is to have fun with it! Modeling is like any other profession – if you don’t enjoy it, you will be miserable. If you have fun with it, modeling can be a very rewarding career!

Meet the Model: Bree Collins

Meet the Model spotlights each and every model featured in Scottsdale Living — so you can get to know them better.

How did you start modeling?

I started modeling at 20 when a friend encouraged me to start doing some fashion shows and photo shoots with her…I started to really get involved with bikini and fitness shoots.

What type of modeling do you like the most and why?

Fitness and bikini. I love doing both types of shoots for the simple fact that they are both my life. I work out six days a week and I own a bikini line called Collections By Collins.

What is your favorite shoot you’ve done? Why?

I did a shoot in San Diego with Aaron Riverall on the beach at dusk. It was the best shoot I’ve done.

What advice would you give to someone interested in modeling?

Never give up and smile :)

Meet the Models: Malloy Sells (JANI Model Management)

Meet the Models spotlights each and every model featured in Scottsdale Living — so you can get to know them better.

 How did you start modeling?

I have always been interested in modeling, but after I suffered an ankle injury and could no longer play volleyball, I decided to finally pursue my dreams and apply to modeling agencies until I was signed with JANI Model Management.

What type of modeling do you like the most and why?

My favorite type of modeling is runway because I love the glamorous feeling I get strutting down the runway to the latest music, all eyes on me and cameras flashing … I feel like a superstar!

What is your favorite shoot you’ve done? Why?

My favorite shoot would have to have been my shoot with Sara Zorker. I loved working with her. She has such a talented, outgoing and bubbly personality, which makes for an awesome photographer (every models dream!) We shot at an awesome location with a bunch of crazy, cool retro looks!

What advice would you give to someone interested in modeling?

To someone interested in modeling I would tell them to never give up on your dreams. At times it may be hard work, but in the end it all pays off when you see an absolute perfect shot or those 30 seconds of awe strutting down the runway.

How did you start modeling?

I’ve always been interested in modeling. It seemed like such an exciting career. I was so excited when people suggested that I should give modeling a try. It was a chance to follow my dream; and I fell in love!

What type of modeling do you like the most and why?

I enjoy fashion photo shoots the most. It gives me a chance to experiment with exotic looks and try on fun clothes and to become, at least for a little while, someone else.

What is your favorite shoot you’ve done and why?

I don’t really have a favorite photo shoot. I have had so much fun with each of them and have found different aspects of each one memorable for a different reason.

Meet the Models: Nemi N. of JANI Model ManagementWhat’s your favorite modeling photo?

arrowsThere are many photos of which I’m proud. Picking an all-time favorite was difficult, but I finally picked this.

It is my favorite because it brought out an aspect of me that was new to me; it is captivating and beautifully captured.

What advice would you give to someone interested in modeling?

There’s nothing more exciting than chasing a dream. It’s definitely not easy, but if you’re passionate about it, it makes all the hard work worth it!

I was approached by JANI Model Management while working as a waiter at my family’s restaurant in Scottsdale.

What type of modeling do you like the most and why?

I like everything that I have done so far. I definitely like modeling suits and clothing because I like fashion, but I also like swimsuit modeling as well.

What is your favorite shoot you’ve done and why?

Michael G. of JANI Model Management

My last shoot at the Talking Stick had to be one of my favorites. I loved the clothes that we modeled as well as the scene.

How did you start modeling?

My sister told me about an open call JANI Model Management was holding last November, and I couldn’t have been more excited to go. They signed me that same week.

What type of modeling do you like the most and why?

Photo shoots are so much fun, but my favorite is runway. It’s an adrenaline rush, and I get to show off my height!

What is your favorite shoot you’ve done and why?

The Scottsdale Living fall shoot to be honest. The location, staff and overall look were all amazing. It was very professional, and I had a blast.

Photo: Michael Franco, Trisha Y.Do you have an all-time favorite modeling photo?

arrowsAs of this moment, I like this one that the talented photographer Michael Franco took. It makes me feel comfortable and timeless when I look at it.

What advice would you give to someone interested in modeling?

Believe in yourself, and stick with the people who support your dream. Everyone’s a critic, and it could be tough — especially if you weren’t born with the perfect measurements, porcelain skin or the supermodel-long legs. However, if you stick to your guns, and embrace your flaws, the confidence you have in yourself will soon convince people of how awesome you really are.

Up next on Meet the Models, meet Tim S. (from JANI Model Management), who you can spot in our Fall 2012 issue.

How did you start modeling?

I first started modeling at 22 years old — not too long ago. A former coworker of mine, who had signed with the agency I currently work for (JANI Model Management), recommended that I should try it out. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to, but with all the encouragement from my friends and family, I walked into their office one day, and I have been there since.

What type of modeling do you like the most and why?

I prefer still photo shoots verses runway or television; although, I find all to be fun and exciting. In my experience, my agency has always worked hard at having the best photographers, stylists and all the other people you need to have a successful photo shoot, in a good setting and comfortable environment.

What is your favorite shoot you’ve done and why?

There have been a few that I’ve really enjoyed so far. I really enjoyed my most recent photo shoot for the Talking Stick Resort where I wore some Astor & Black attire that looked amazing and some of the most friendly staff and photographers I’ve had the pleasure of working with thus far.

Tim S., Photo: Michael FrancoDo you have an all-time favorite modeling photo?

arrowsThis is a photo taken by the very talented photographer Michael Franco. He really brought out and captured a sort of intense, focused, but elegant feel. Very professional. I love it because it looks amazing.

What advice would you give to someone interested in modeling?

I’d say confidence and believing in your self is key. It is a serious profession and can be a good career if you choose to make it so. Work hard always and conduct yourself in a way that reflects professionalism in everything you do; but most importantly, enjoy what you’re doing, and have fun.

How did you start modeling?

I have always wanted to be that girl in the magazines; I wanted to feel beautiful. I entered a contest two years ago that started it all. Now I’m here, and I love every moment of it.

What type of modeling do you like the most and why?

I love all aspects of modeling, but the thing that gets me most excited is when I get to portray different characters and feelings. It’s fun to see yourself in different lights.

What is your favorite shoot you’ve done and why?

I have two — one is for the jewelry line GIGIchic, and my other favorite would be a swimsuit campaign, “Fall from Summer.” These two are my favorite because there were so many wonderful people involved, and I’m very proud of the outcome.

Meet the Models: Sheniece B.Do you have an all-time favorite modeling photo?

arrowsThis photo is my favorite because it’s a look I’ve never done before. It’s so different from the way I see myself on a day-to-day basis.

What advice would you give to someone interested in modeling?

If this is what you want to do, do it. If it’s what makes you happy, modeling or any other job or hobby, don’t let it go. People often never find that one thing that they love doing the most. But the ones that do, shouldn’t let anything get in the way. Be yourself! Never lose the person you are, or want to become.

Meet The Models: Jacqulyn Woodworth

Meet the Models spotlights each and every model featured in Scottsdale Living — so you can get to know them better.

Up next on Meet the Models, meet Jacqulyn Woodworth, who sports a beautiful one-piece bandeau, Palm Harbour, by Carmen Marc Valvo in our Spring 2012 issue.

How did you start modeling?

I don’t consider myself a model until it starts paying all my bills and strangers know my name. I went to this modeling thing in Vegas when I was 19; I got a lot of callbacks from agencies like Wilhelmina, NY Models, LA Models, etc., but they all wanted me to lose more inches around my waist. I didn’t get back into it until last year when I signed with City Models in San Francisco. I ended up moving to Phoenix and signing with Deborah Maddox Agency. I have the opportunity to go to L.A. this summer or Milan to model; not sure what I want to do yet, but I feel very blessed.

What type of modeling do you like the most and why?

I’ve only done prints, but I love photo shoots. It’s pretty cool to see what the model and photographer can create.

What is your favorite shoot you’ve done and why?Jacqulyn Woodworth

My favorite shoot was in San Francisco; it was for awareness about how people are affecting the wildlife and their environment. It was an eight-and-a-half-hour day, the wind was blowing on the coast where we were shooting, and I was freezing all day. It was so worth it, though, when I saw the end results.

Do you have an all time favorite modeling photo?

‹‹‹

What advice would you give to someone interested in modeling?

I would advise them to get some pictures taken ― not professionally because agencies want to see the 100 percent real you so they know what they’re working with. Take a headshot, upper body, whole body, and one that shows your personality. Make sure they are the right measurements and email them out to all the biggest agencies in New York and L.A. Most agencies’ websites make it so you can submit your picture and info. on their site.
