Phoenix Open most tech-friendly event on PGA Tour

With a new and improved tournament mobile app and increased on-site Wi-Fi and cell coverage and capacity, the Waste Management Phoenix Open remains the most technology-friendly golf tournament on the PGA TOUR.

Improved technology at the 2015 Waste Management Phoenix Open includes:

• More than a dozen new Wi-Fi wireless access points have been added between the 18th green and 16th hole to improve capacity and reception. The entire golf course is now one giant hot spot with free Wi-Fi provided by Cox Business. The free, expanded Wi-Fi from Cox Business not only provides faster download speeds everywhere on the course, but also cuts through cellular network congestion in the area for fans who just want to download the tournament app, access the Internet, make phone calls or text message.

• Sprint has brought a high capacity Cell Site on Wheels (COW) to the tournament.  The COW will enhance Sprint’s wireless capacity and coverage for voice, data and text messaging. Simply put, more golf fans will be able to enjoy the tournament App and share their WM Phoenix Open experiences using Sprint cell phones. “Sprint has enhanced its network at TPC Scottsdale to give attendees more reliable access to the WM Phoenix Open Mobile App, sponsored by Kyocera,” said Kevin Kunkel, regional vice president of sales for Sprint. “Together, we are bringing more people closer to the game of golf and the Greatest Show on Grass.”
• The WM Phoenix Open Mobile App, sponsored by Kyocera, for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets is new and improved with a new “Get in the Q” sweepstakes for fans to be engaged in tournament action. Plus, detailed information on the tournament’s security procedures, including what is and what is not allowed into the TPC.

The free app, developed by Scottsdale-based AGN Sports, features:

• “Get in the Q” Sweepstakes – During tournament week, fans can play the Quicken Loans “Get in the Q” Sweepstakes through the Waste Management Phoenix Open App. If a PGA TOUR player hits their shot inside of seven feet on the 16th hole, winners will receive a one month mortgage payment courtesy of Quicken Loans. To register for the Quicken Loans “Get in the Q” Sweepstakes, fans can sign-up on-site at the tournament, or download the Waste Management Phoenix Open App via iTunes or through Google Play.

• PGA TOUR Leaderboard – So fans can see where their favorite players are in the standings

• Car Finder – Using GPS and navigation functionality, users arriving at the tournament can save the location of their cars and be guided back upon their departures.

• “Take Me There” Navigation – Users can search and select points of interest on the golf course, including tees, greens, concession stands, restrooms and merchandise areas and tap “Take Me There.” A yellow path will be superimposed on a virtual course map that takes the user to that point of interest from his/her current location on course.

• Links to Waste Management Phoenix Open social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).

• TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course hole descriptions.

• Information on Waste Management, the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Kyocera, the Thunderbirds, Coors Light Birds Nest, local weather and more.

• Daily Event feature – information and schedules detailing each day’s activities during the tournament.

Advancements in technology support Waste Management’s “Zero Waste” initiatives by reducing the amount of information distributed by paper at the tournament (brochures, guides, programs, etc) and transferring it to mobile/digital form. Plus, 100 percent of the electricity to power the tournament has been purchased from renewable energy.

The Waste Management Phoenix Open will be played January 26 – February 1, 2015, at TPC Scottsdale. The tournament host The Thunderbirds have raised more than $93 million for charities, with more than $68 million generated since 2004. The 2015 edition will mark the 80th playing of the event, making it one of the five oldest events on the PGA TOUR (not including the major championships). Arizona State Fair’s Mobile App Debuts

In a continued effort to improve the guest experience, the Arizona State Fair launched a new mobile app free for download for iOS and Android. The app offers immediate access to information on attractions, rides, concerts, discounts, and all things Arizona State Fair. Guests can even find community stage schedules and contest winners for the livestock and competitive entries competitions on the app.

One of the great features of the mobile app is its interactive map. Users can filter icons on the map to display only certain categories, including the locations of restrooms and ATMS, stages, or shopping areas. There is also the ability to place personal markers to help guests remember where they parked or assign a family meeting place.

Users looking to plan ahead for their visit will find detailed attraction descriptions, concert times and reserved seating prices, ride information and ticket requirements, information on gate admission discounts, and a schedule of Fair events.

Whether you are planning your Arizona State Fair visit before ever stepping foot on the fairgrounds or navigating through the Midway, the Arizona State Fair app is a tremendous resource for everything taking place across the 18 days of the 2014 season.

Stat Doctors App Marks Next Generation in eHealth Delivery

Scottsdale-based Stat Doctors™, a leading eHealth solution providing 24/7/365 access to affordable quality care, developed a mobile app improving health care delivery through high-quality video eVisits. Available for iPad, iPhone and Android smartphones, Stat Doctors Mobile App provides all the features of the computer application and links members with board-certified ER physicians for on-demand treatment of minor illnesses and common medical conditions.

“Health care delivery is shifting rapidly toward an affordable, on-demand model, yet it’s imperative that convenience doesn’t compromise quality,” said Dr. Alan C. Roga, M.D., F.A.C.E.P., founder and CEO of Stat Health Services, the providers of Stat Doctors. “We created a mobile app that goes well beyond other eHealth services, providing a full patient care delivery model and truly exceptional patient experience.”

Utilizing proprietary technology, Stat Doctors Mobile App boasts a combination of industry-leading features.

• With an average wait time of six minutes, patients can use the app to seek treatment for minor illnesses such as respiratory infections, influenza, strep throat and other non-emergency conditions.
• Unlike competitor apps, the entire health care delivery model is available through the app, including high-quality video enabling patients and doctors to communicate as they would in person.
• Doctors can ePrescribe medications, instantly delivering them to the patient’s pharmacy of choice.
• Within 72 hours of every eVisit, a follow-up call is conducted to ensure the patient’s recovery.
• Stat Doctors is the only eHealth service in which patients are treated solely by an exclusive network of board-certified ER physicians.

The American Telemedicine Association estimates more than 10 million Americans directly benefited from telemedicine over the past year, and this number is expected to more than double by 2016. Moreover, according to a January report from comScore, mobile devices accounted for 55 percent of Internet usage in the United States, and apps made up 47 percent of total traffic.

Anticipating the growing demand for mobile health care services, Stat Doctors created a HIPAA-compliant app offering high-quality, secure and immediate care utilizing video.

“The Stat Doctors Mobile App demonstrates our commitment to advance the eHealth category. Not only has our data shown that more than 60 percent of our patients access the service through mobile devices, but the patient experience with video is superior,” said Dr. Roga.

Stat Doctors was founded in 2009 by a proprietary group of board-certified, practicing ER physicians. It’s available as an additional health benefit through employer-provided health insurance coverage and other group plans. Dr. Roga says the company has taken a patient-focused stance since day one.

“The quality of care is second to none. This app makes the service even more convenient for patients, enabling them to receive this high-quality care completely on the go,” he said.

The app is available by searching “Stat Doctors” in the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android).

As a national eHealth leader, Stat Doctors will soon launch an app for its network of physicians to further improve the patient experience.

‘Appy’ New Year: You can now take AZRE with you

Peter MadridThis is when technology is so cool — AZRE magazine has its own app for Android phones and the website is getting a facelift.

AZRE magazine has had a website — azbigmedia.com — for a little more than a year. Reveiws from people in the commercial real estate industry have been very positive. Starting in January we are making it easy to navigate, and directing readers to the top reads of the day. What I’m most excited about is the AZRE magazine app for Android phones that has been available for a few months now. This is all you have to do to get it:

>> Go to the Google Play Store App on your Android phone. (The AZRE app has yet to be approved for Apple products; but we’ve applied.).

>> Go to the search field and enter “azre magazine” in the search bar.

>> Follow the prompt and download the app.

I’m so excited that I forgot to mention the highlights of this issue, which are: a special section celebrating the 35th anniversary of The Weitz Company in Arizona; the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC); the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM); a look at Continuum in Chandler; and 40 companies to watch in commercial real estate in 2013.

Really? Is it 2013 already? Time to start working on the March/April issue. Time does fly when you’re having fun.
