Tickets are now available for the 2013 Breast of Scottsdale, which will take place on Tuesday, September 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Herb Box’s Southbridge location to benefit the Arizona Institute for Breast Health (AIBH). All guests are encouraged to think pink with their attire, and prizes will be awarded to the pinkest partygoers of the evening. Tickets are $25 each and available now at AIBH.ORG. This is a 21 and over event.

“For us, the breast cancer fight is a personal one. We’ve all been touched by the disease, but Jennifer Velazquez, our general manager, is now two years breast cancer-free and eager to join in the local fight for her fellow survivors,” said The Herb Box co-owner Susan Smederovac-Wilcox, noting 100% of tickets sales are going directly to AIBH.

While sipping and sampling the tasty treats and drinks from the evening’s custom menu, guests will also be able to visit the AIBH “Pink Light District” table where they will have the opportunity to express their love, appreciation and gratitude by sponsoring pink light bulbs for just $25 each.

Each pink light will be placed on the Marshall Way Bridge, which is just outside of The Herb Box and links the Scottsdale Waterfront to the Southbridge District in downtown Scottsdale. These Pink Honor Lights – together called The Pink Light District – will be illuminated on October 3 and will glow throughout October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in recognition of all those touched by this disease.

Starting with the Pink Light District initiative on October 3, The Herb Box will be offering a special “Pink” drink, favorite items on their “Pink” menu as well as a variety of “Pink” pastries available for purchase the entire month of October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with a portion of all proceeds being donated to AIBH.

“AIBH was formed with one singular focus – to offer Arizona women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer a second opinion about their treatment options, completely free of charge,” said Christine Fenwick, executive director of AIBH and a 17-year breast cancer survivor. “AIBH has a 12-member volunteer team of physicians and medical professionals whose specialties include breast radiology, breast surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, reconstructive surgery and breast pathology. This team evaluates the best medical and surgical options for the preservation of a woman’s life, body and emotional well-being, as well as the continued quality of her life.”

To date, AIBH has worked with thousands of women and their families – and not only to provide second opinions. In fact, they also provide free support, resources, fitness and nutrition advice and more. For tickets or more information, please visit www.aibh.org.

Taste, Sip and Give Back: 3 Must-Attend Fall Events

Taste, Sip And Give Back: 3 Must-Attend Fall Events

Whether indulging on a selection of small bites or sampling some of Arizona’s finest wines, giving back has never tasted so good. As the weather cools, delicious giving opportunities designed to benefit some of the Valley’s most impacting nonprofit organizations will be hot, hot, hot!

With so many great, upcoming fall events, we had to narrow it down. Here’s some of the tastiest bites:

A Bite for Kids

Taste, sip and socialize with Arizona’s best chefs and restaurateurs for the 8th annual Phoenix Cooks celebration at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa. This special event, taking place all day on September 1, 2012, will include everything from chef demonstrations and cooking classes to raffles and celebrity cooking challenges, with all proceeds benefiting the Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Not hungry? Take a sip from 30 wine sampling booths, or try some beer from the Alaskan Brewing Company. A best bet for fun — my personal cooking workshop at 2 p.m., which will focus on simple sushi recipes you can make at home. You can purchase your tickets here.

Breast of Scottsdale

A Bite for Breasts

It is the pinkest party Scottsdale has ever seen! On Wednesday, September 12, Sapporo is pleased to be partnering with Belvedere Vodka to host the first-ever Breast of Scottsdale, benefiting the Arizona Institute for Breast Health (AIBH). During this special event, the community is invited to dress in their pink best and sip and sample sumptuous pink-themed food and drink menu items while enjoying great music, interactive photography and other surprises. A portion of the proceeds from these items, which will be officially available throughout October at Sapporo Scottsdale, will benefit Arizona Institute for Breast Health and its critical mission to offer Arizona women diagnosed with breast cancer a second opinion on their treatment options, completely free of charge. All proceeds from this event will benefit the organization’s Pink Light District. Pink attire is requested, and there will be prizes for the most fabulous, creative and innovative pink fashions of the night. The cost to attend is a $25 donation to the organization, which can be made by visiting AIBH’s website.

A Bite for Pat

On Friday, November 9, we at Sapporo are so proud to sponsor the Weekend Jetaway! This event, focused on raising funds for the Pat Tillman Foundation and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale, respectively, will feature live music, culinary creations from leading Valley chefs (ahem!), cocktails and casino games in a private jet hangar within the Scottsdale Airpark.

In addition to sampling special treats from our and other leading chef’s fall menus, during the event guests will have the chance to win several fabulous prizes, including the grand prize — a luxurious all-inclusive, first-class trip on a private jet.

“It is through the generosity of our donors that we are able to directly impact the lives of Tillman Military Scholars by providing the financial and educational resources needed to prevent undeserved debt, increase economic stability and establish a foundation for greater career opportunities,” said Marie Tillman.

To purchase tickets, please visit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale’s website.

Other events to chew on in coming months include: Taste of Hope, Corks & Chords, Dine Out with the Chefs, Play All Night, Russo and Steele, and AZ Wine & Dine.

Arizona Institute For Breast Health Announces Return of Pink Light District Fundraiser

As part of the annual Pink Light District to benefit the Arizona Institute for Breast Health (AIBH), members of the Arizona community and beyond are invited to sponsor a pink light in honor or in memory of a loved one touched by cancer. The Scottsdale-headquartered, nonprofit organization stands behind its mission to provide women diagnosed with breast cancer in Arizona a second opinion on treatment options completely free of charge.

Pink Light DistrictPink Honor Lights may be given to anyone touched by breast cancer in any way. They can shine in honor of a brave survivor, in memory of a loved one or to recognize that special person in your doctor’s office. There is no limit to the number of lights one can buy to recognize and honor those in their lives. Sponsorships of multiple lights and other donation opportunities are also available.

“The lights, available for sponsorship now through October 31, will glow over the Marshall Way Bridge in downtown Scottsdale starting October 4 and throughout the rest of Breast Cancer Awareness month,” says Christine Fenwick, executive director of AIBH and 17-year breast cancer survivor.

In addition to the light, each honoree who is gifted a light will receive a Pink Light Tribute Card, and his or her name will be placed in the 2012 Pink Light Honor Album on the AIBH website. “This year, we are extremely honored to have Dr. William Leighton as our 2012 Pink Light District Premier Sponsor,” Fenwick says.

In addition to Dr. Leighton, other valuable corporate sponsors include Yeager North, Iron Medical Systems, Olive & Ivy, Anasazi Internal Medicine, HMA Public Relations, Sapporo Scottsdale, Leighton & Abdo Attorneys at Law, Fiesta Furnishings and Arizona Breast Cancer Specialists, which is led by AIBH co-founder, Dr. Coral Quiet, who also serves as the organization’s volunteer medical director.

Fenwick adds that other interested potential partners are welcome to visit AIBH’s website  and contact her team to arrange a fundraising event.

“Since our inception in 1998, we’ve sought to provide education, resources and support to newly diagnosed patients with the help of our volunteer team of physicians and medical professionals whose specialties include breast radiology, breast surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, reconstructive surgery and breast pathology,” says Dr. Quiet, whose team was recently named a 2012 Healthcare Leadership Award honoree and a 2012 Phoenix Business Journal Health Care Hero finalist for the critical service they provide to the community.
