Day:
“You want it to be very easy, less is more and don’t forger your sunblock,” says Gabriel.  To keep your day make up looking good all day Gabriel stresses the necessity of primer. Primers allow for better wear and they can be used for eye shadow and skin makeup. To prevent a makeup mishap in the summer heat Gabriel uses “really light foundation, maybe even a bb cream or a tinted moisturizer for healthy day look.”

Pool parties are all the buzz in the summer months and having right makeup is a must. “Keep it simple,” says Gabriel; for a pool party look she recommends sunblock, tinted moisturizer, water proof mascara, a long wearing lip color and a little bit of bronzer.

There are two common mistakes girls make with their daytime summer makeup according to Gabriel. First, girls do not using sunblock or they don’t have any SPF in their products. Second, they apply heavy foundation — “you want your skin to breath during the day.”

Night:
Gabriel talks about the differences in night makeup, “for night you want to focus on certain features, so you want to go bold with your brows and lips.” You can also ad lashes for more drama. Girls, Gabriel says, sometimes make the mistake when trying to get that bold dramatic look they go big with everything. “Less is more” with night makeup too, says Gabriel, and girls make the mistake and go big with eyes, cheeks, lips and it is too much. She recommends picking one or two things, like the eyes and lips or focus on the skin with contorting.

It does not matter if you’re hanging out in the sun this summer or getting ready for a night on the town, the big makeup trend this summer is radiant hydrated skin that is healthy and glowing. Do not forget a bold lip using fun summer colors like orange, coral, and pinks to perfect any summer look according to Gabriel.

How did you start modeling?
My parents always said I was photogenic and took me to my first casting when I was a kid to pursue it. I decided not to pursue modeling until I was 17. I started working promotional events, and then started to shoot and fell in love with it.

What type of modeling do you like the most and why?
I love fashion and outdoor shoots. I love to capture the moment and create the perfect pose even when it’s awkward. Print work, commercial and live shoots!

What is your favorite shoot you’ve done?
That’s hard to choose, but one of favorites is a lingerie-angel style shoot with six-feet-long wings. I love Victoria’s Secret’s themes, so that shoot was defintely fun to film and shoot.

What’s your favorite modeling photo?
My shoot for my IMKING.com look book and eating ice cream while posing.

What advice would you give to someone interested in modeling?
Be patient and start a modeling portfolio, which looks professional when applying for a modeling opportunity.  Also, understand you have to shoot a few free/trade modeling shoots until you get comfortable in front of the camera. Never give up, have a great attitude and take constructive criticism well!

What is your favorite place to eat in Scottsdale?
Sushi Roku!

What is your favorite bar/nightclub in Scottsdale?
Maya (Day and Nightclub)!

Wet and wild swimsuit trends with Scottsdale 16′s Jenna Wood

Summertime in the Valley means soaking up the sun, but before you take the plunge and buy a new swimsuit, hear what Scottsdale 16’s Jenna Wood says is trending this summer.

The Scottsdale 16, a part of Steve LeVine Entertainment & Public Relations, is a group of young, beautiful women in Arizona who are booked for a variety of events across the Valley by Steve LeVine Entertainment & Public Relations, including corporate parties, special events, and modeling for promotional or runway shows. Wood is no stranger to bikini trends and the proper pool party etiquette for the summer.

This summer, bikini trends are about standing out and nothing about Wood’s favorite styles are boring. For her, it is all about being more unique then the traditional triangle top. She really likes cut-out styles and strappy tops and bottoms. Bright colors have definitely worked their way into swimwear designs.

“I’ve noticed I have been buying a lot of exotic prints lately,” she said. “Anything from tribal to tropical, as long as it’s bright I love it!”

With all the unique prints and eye-popping colors out there, Wood’s go-to style is mixing and matching. Wood has a few bottoms that fit her body type and then pairs them with all types of tops, primarily bandeaus or anything bright. But most importantly, no matter what your preference is, Wood stresses that “women know how to dress to their body type. Not every style is the best look of everyone.

One of the major perks of living in Arizona is the plethora of pool parties around the Valley and what you wear to these events is just as important as a night on the town. A great bathing suit is a must, but accessories make just as big of a statement. Wood likes to stand out.

“I’m in love with my gold body chain right now,” she said. Wood matches it with small gold stud earrings, bracelets, strappy sandals or wedges and, of course, sunglasses for the perfect look.

A pool party is a great place to make a statement, but also opens the door for a lot of potential mishaps.

“Nothing is worse than a girl who shows up in a bikini she doesn’t intend to get wet,” Wood said. Wood advises to stay away from sequins, beads or anything more than $200 for a pool party look.

All the bikinis and accessories shown in these three looks can be found at the W Hotels The Store located in W Scottsdale. The store offers the latest looks from the most desired designers including Yumi Kim, Dolce Vita and Vitamin A.

Meet Jenna Wood, who recently gave Scottsdale Living a few of her favorite swimsuit trends this summer!

How did you start modeling?
I grew up dancing at a studio. When I stepped into the professional dance industry, it was important to have a modeling portfolio. It all blossomed from there once I met the right people.

What type of modeling do you like the most and why?
I prefer print over runway because I’m not among the tallest girls. I like fun and sexy shoots, something tasteful yet unique.

What is your favorite shoot you’ve done?
I did a really amazing photoshoot at an abandoned potato barn a few years ago. It was a huge venue with tons of graffiti and broken glass. We got creative and had a blast.

What’s your favorite modeling photo?
My favorite photo, to this day, is a shoot I did when I was 18 by Benizo. He caught me in a perfect high-kick while wearing heels and a fedora! It’s such a beautiful shot and he is an amazing photographer.

What advice would you give someone interesting in modeling?
I would recommend practicing in the mirror. I grew up in a dance studio so I spent years in front of a wall of mirrors. It’s important when learning your angles and how to use light.

What is your favorite place to eat in Scottsdale?
I think I could eat at Sushi Roku everyday for the rest of my life. It’s definitely the freshest sushi you can find in Scottsdale, combined with a sexy atmosphere and fantastic service. Every time I walk in, they bring me a glass of my usual Malbec!

What is your favorite bar/nightclub in Scottsdale?
If I’m in the mood to get dolled up, I definitely love Maya. It’s a little taste of Vegas and they always have my favorite DJs. If I’m just trying to go out and have a beer, I stay at El Hefe Scottsdale or Bottled Blonde.

Opportunities started right after I moved to Scottsdale and started with Scottsdale 16.

What type of modeling do you like the most and why?
Print modeling is easier for me because I walk way too fast on the runway!

What is your favorite shoot you’ve done?
So far, working with Michael Franco has been my most favorite. He is absolutely amazing at what he does and he is going places!

What’s your favorite modeling photo?
Of course, it is one by Michael Franco.

What advice would you give someone interesting in modeling?
What is meant to be will happen. Work hard, stay healthy and keep your body in great condition. The confidence will show!

What is your favorite place to eat in Scottsdale?
There are a few spots: I love Sushi Roku at W Scottsdale. I also love to go to the Gelato Spot for dessert! They have the best gelato!

What is your favorite bar/nightclub in Scottsdale?
If I am going to be dancing, Maya! If I want to relax, Casablanca or W Scottsdale!

How to ‘sweat pretty’ with Scottsdale 16′s Grace Koval

In the unforgiving Arizona summer heat, it is all about sweating pretty. Grace Koval, member of the Scottsdale 16, a part of Steve LeVine Entertainment & Public Relations, shared some of her summer beauty secrets, tips and techniques to beat the summer heat. The Scottsdale 16 is a group of young, beautiful women in Arizona who are booked for a variety of events across the Valley, including corporate parties, special events and modeling for promotional or runway shows. Koval is no stranger to the importance of always looking good regardless of the scorching temperatures.

Your skin is your first impression and keeping it looking good during the summer months, which puts extra stress on your skin, is a must. It almost seems too simple but staying hydrated in the summer can go a long way when it comes skin beauty.

Grace Koval

“I noticed a huge difference in my skin with acne, spots and just overall complexion with just water alone,” said Koval.

To keep her looking its best at all times in the summer Koval applies Clinique’s Moisture Surge Overnight Mask a few times a week to replenish the hydration her skin loses.

It may seem cliché, but Koval named sunscreen her essential summer beauty product.

“Even with olive skin, I apply sunscreen when going to the pool because I want my skin to look great even when I’m much older,” stated Koval.

She recommends L’Oreal’s Sublime Sun SPF 50, which goes on clear and makes you skin glow all day. Another way to get that must needed SPF is with moisturizer that included SPF in it; Koval uses Aveeno Positively Radiant every morning and night to get that added hydration and softness.

It also is “very crucial to have a chap stick around you at all times,” said Koval.

Summer beauty is all about having that sun kissed skin but, as easy as it can be to tan in an Arizona summer, it can be just easy to lose it.

“It’s very basic, if you want to keep your tan you have to moisturize your skin,” Koval said.

With tanning and being out in the sun skin damage is something you always have to lookout for. Koval recommends Clinical Dark Spot Corrector, a prescription-strength serum, to improve sun dark spots.

“I am on my second bottle,” she added.

Even with radiant healthy skin, looking your best is not easy in the heat because makeup can melt right off your face. To make sweating look good and keep long lasting makeup Koval applies Dior Glow Maximizer light boosting primer. Koval is a huge promoter of primer: “You can wear it alone, under foundation or even mix it with a CC cream for an all-day glow.”

Summer makeup is all about keeping it light for Koval.

“I try not to have my makeup to heavy in the summer, so a great lip is a must,” she said.

She is loving BITE’s high pigment pencil in rhubarb, it’s moisturizing, goes on light, and leaves a great natural looking lip. Summer beauty is about keeping everything looking good in the heat and sun by talking care of your skin and using products like primer, sweating this summer has never look better.
