These are the top five highest grossing movies with the biggest opening weekends at the box office; and they continue to be named as favorites by fans all over the world.
1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II
The much-anticipated last installment of the Harry Potter series had a record-breaking opening weekend, grossing over $169 million on the weekend of July 15, 2011.

2. The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight comes in close second, and had a total opening weekend gross of $158 million when it came to theatres the weekend of July 18, 2008.

3. Spider-Man 3
The third and darkest installment of the Spider-Man movies, Spider-Man 3, was very successful. The movie grossed $151 million on the weekend of May 4, 2007.

4. The Twilight Saga: New Moon
The vampire-loving fans of “The Twilight Saga” books came to the theaters to support New Moon, grossing a total of $142 million on the weekend of Nov. 20, 2009.

5. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
After Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl became such a hit, it’s no surprise Dead Man’s Chest was so popular, grossing $135 million on the opening weekend of July 7, 2006.
