Zito and James

Three-time Major League Baseball All-Star and former Cy Young Award winning pitcher, Barry Zito, of the 2012 World Champion San Francisco Giants, and national recording artist Kelley James, will headline “A Night for the Troops” on Saturday, March 9, at W Scottsdale. The show will benefit Strikeouts for Troops®, a non-profit charity founded by Zito in 2005.

strikeouts for troopsPerforming together for a fifth time, Zito and James will perform their unique mix of acoustic music for a very special cause. Strikeouts for Troops gives back to injured military service men and women through grants by providing the ‘comforts of home’ to injured troops, uplifting spirit and morale, and offering support to their families.

Zito, a 13-year MLB veteran, is also an accomplished songwriter who has always had a love for the stage. Zito’s roots and influence in music began with his parents. His father, Joe, was a classically trained musician and conductor/composer for Nat King Cole and his late mother, Roberta, performed with the Merry Young Souls, the back up singers for Cole.

James has toured the nation with acts such as Mike Posner and O.A.R., and has performed over 800 shows in the past four years. He has sold out shows at the Key Club and Troubadour in Los Angeles as well as the House of Blues in Chicago and he is a regular performer at PGA events including the Coors Light Birds Nest at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Farmer’s Insurance Rock Ball, HP Byron Nelson Pavilion After Dark and many more.

W Scottsdale Winter Wonderland

W Scottsdale Transforms Wet Deck Into Winter Wonderland

Arizonan’s and winter visitors no longer have to wish for snow in the Valley of the Sun; W Scottsdale of W Hotels will have it and more. W Scottsdale is transforming its pool into an ice skating rink as artificial snow falls from the sky with snow machines.

Held from November 16, 2012 through January 6, 2013, Scottsdale’s only outdoor hybrid ice skating rink at 1,600-square-feet will be decked out with glittering lights; and private, decorated cabanas and a rink-side bar will both be available. This event isn’t just for the kids; rental skates are available for adults, too.

W Scottsdale guests are able to enjoy unlimited skate rentals as part of the Chill Out room package (valid November 16, 2012 to January 6, 2013). The Chill Out package is $239 per night and includes a room for two, two SIP (drink) tickets, and unlimited skate rentals.

W Scottsdale offers 224 guest rooms, 27 luxurious suites, a spa, and Sushi Roku (its on-site restaurant). Reserve a room and relax in luxury, or drop by for a visit to this signature, winter event that you won’t find anywhere else. Skate, dance or relax under a cabana — this is an event you don’t want to miss.

W Scottsdale - Ice Skating

W Scottsdale Transforms Into Winter Wonderland As Pool Becomes Ice Rink

CHILL, Scottsdale’s first and only outdoor hybrid ice skating rink, will transform the WET pool deck at W Scottsdale into a winter wonderland from November 16, 2012 through January 6, 2013, bringing a new level of holiday cool to Arizona’s hottest destination.

In addition to the 1,600-square-foot hybrid ice skating rink, a faux snow machine will produce falling flakes every hour, and the rink-side bar will serve specialty cocktails. Twinkling lights and private, decorated cabanas complement the festive atmosphere, with live music performances and DJs scheduled on select weekend evenings throughout the holiday season.

Adults and kids aged five and up are welcome to don a pair of skates (rental available on-site) and take to the ice Monday-Friday 4pm-12am and Saturday-Sunday 12pm-12am. The synthetic ice does not require the need for generators or electricity and is made from a recyclable, eco-friendly polymer compound. The rink feels 10-15% slower than skating on typical refrigerated ice and feels much like skating on a real frozen pond!

W Scottsdale guests will enjoy unlimited skate rentals as part of the hotel’s corresponding Chill Out room package, valid November 16, 2012-January 6, 2013. The Chill Out package starts at $239 per night and includes:

  • Accommodations in a Wonderful room for two
  • Two SIP (drink) tickets
  • Unlimited skate rental

For more information or to make a reservation, please call W Scottsdale at (877) 782-0104 or visit www.wscottsdalehotel.com/chill.

Morgan Page Fourth Of July At W Scottsdale [PHOTOS]

Two-time Grammy nominee and five-time International Dance Music award nominee, Morgan Page, transformed the W Scottsdale’s WET Deck into an EDM nightclub and dance party.

As W Scottsdale guests celebrated the afternoon and evening away (from noon to 9:30 p.m.), the Fourth of July event ended the night with a spectacular fireworks show from the rooftop.

And Scottsdale Living was there to capture it all.
