Mothers Against Drunk Driving brings Phoenix residents together for the Annual Walk Like MADD on March 16, to eliminate drunk driving.

The Phoenix Chapter of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving, (MADD), is a non-profit organization that supports victims of drunk driving and spreads awareness of the heartbreaking effects drunk driving can have in the community.

Walk Like MADD 2013In Arizona alone there were over 260 people killed in drunk driving related accidents in 2011 and that number continues to rise. Walk Like MADD helps further the organization’s life-saving mission to campaign to eliminate drunk driving and is held in 36 cities this year.

“We encourage families, and groups of friends and co-workers, to lace up their sneakers and join us for this year’s walk,” said Susan Kavanaugh, executive director of MADD Phoenix. “With everyone’s help, we can and will eliminate drunk driving — a 100 percent preventable crime.”

Walk Like MADD is a non-competitive 5K walk in Phoenix. Check-in for the walk is at the Phoenix Zoo and all proceeds will raise funds and rally support for MADD’s campaign. Registration is $15 for ages five to 20, and $20 for those 21 and over.

If you want to get involved in the MADD organization there are three ways:

  • Register to walk as an individual or a team
  • Sign up online to raise money as a virtual walker
  • Give a one-time donation to Walk Like MADD
