Norris Design promotes staff in Phoenix
Norris Design, a national planning, landscape architecture and branding firm, has announced the promotion of three staff members in their Phoenix office.
In his new role as Senior Associate, Ron Harris will continue to apply his 25 years of development planning and project experience. Ron excels at technical site planning and the process of obtaining jurisdictional approval of entitlements. His current projects include the Andora residential community and the mixed-use developments at 59th Avenue and Southern Avenue and 67th Avenue and Broadway Road.
Christian Sobecki, PLA has been promoted to Associate. With a focus in landscape architecture, he excels at leading the design process from concept development through construction. Christian’s current projects include Banner University Medical Center’s Healing Garden in Phoenix and Paradise at P83 in Peoria.
Kaylynn Rewerts has also been promoted to Associate. Her organization and thorough attention to detail provide quick and creative solutions during both the design and construction phases of a project. Kaylynn is currently working on the landscape design for HonorHealth at Sonoran Hospital and is actively involved in the Valley Partnership Community Project Committee where she supports completion efforts of local community focused projects.
NAWBO names new president
Ronit Urman, a Valley resident and business owner for 27 years, has been named the President of the Phoenix branch of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). As President, she is dedicating much of her time this year to helping other women in Arizona reach the sustained success that she’s worked so hard to achieve.
Appropriately, this year NAWBO has unveiled the hashtag on their social media accounts, #SmashTheGlass, which is something Urman has been doing for nearly 3 decades.
Her journey with NAWBO Phoenix started six years ago as a regular attendee of their monthly programs. Urman says that from the moment she walked in, she felt very welcome, but they have always kept her on her toes. “This group has challenged me in so many ways, resulting in personal growth, interest, leadership opportunities and helped open my eyes to look beyond my business and personal circle and comfort zone.”
one•n•ten hires development director
one•n•ten, the Arizona-based nonprofit that seeks to help the Valley’s LGBTQ youth as they navigate growing up, finding work and more, is adding a fresh new face to its team.
Manny Lucero has signed on as Development Director of the organization that offers weekly discussion groups and regular social networking opportunities for the area’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth, with the longtime advocate taking on a variety of tasks to further one•n•ten’s efforts and partnerships in the community.
No stranger to the nonprofit landscape, Lucero brings more than 10 years of experience to the one•n•ten team, having lent his skills to the likes of A New Leaf, AWEE, the Women’s Business Center of Maricopa, and Ronald McDonald House Charities. Lucero’s other philanthropic efforts include serving as a longtime volunteer with the Make a Wish Foundation and a past president of the LGBT Arizona State University Alumni Board of Directors.
Matthew A. Goldstein joins Farhang & Medcoff
Farhang & Medcoff announced Matthew A. Goldstein has joined the firm as Senior Counsel. Goldstein brings significant experience and skill in international trade law to F&M’s team of attorneys.
Goldstein is the chairman of F&M’s International Trade Group, which focuses on export controls compliance, regulatory matters, internal investigations, and litigation. Goldstein previously advised several federal agencies and served as an industry representative before the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Commerce pursuant to executive branch appointments under the Federal Advisory Committee Act.
Goldstein has extensive experience in internal investigations, voluntary disclosures to government agencies and managing consent agreements. He leverages his knowledge and experience to help clients develop compliance metrics and interactive analytics tools for compliance audits, assessments, and reports. When necessary, Goldstein relies on his extensive background to create proactive strategies to resolve or litigate, cost-effectively, regulatory-based claims against the government under the Administrative Procedures Act and other laws.
Big Brothers Big Sisters announces new chair
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona (BBBSAZ), one of the largest Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies in the United States, appoints a new board chair and welcomes a new executive committee.
Jim Mapstead will serve as the new board chairman. Mapstead is an entrepreneur and business owner for over 37 years, and currently is the owner of Accurate Signs & Engraving, Inc. Mapstead has served on several commissions and non-profit boards in Phoenix, including Board Chair of Local First Arizona, Herberger Theater Center Vice Chair, the Phoenix Planning Commission, the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Phoenix Parks & Conservation Foundation Board of Directors, President of the Executive Association of Greater Phoenix, President of Valley Citizens League, President of the Sunnyslope Village Alliance, President of the Sunnyslope Kiwanis Club, and is also a former Big Brother.
