Caretaker Landscape and Tree Management is getting its entire team involved to raise money for Brokers for Kids 2013.

Brokers for Kids is a year-long contest involving valley commercial real estate teams in a fundraising drive that culminates with the annual event, this year Feb. 15 at Tempe Beach Park.

The coveted Broker’s Cup is awarded to the top fundraising team. Teams also compete for the Olympiad Championship, battling it out in the quarterback challenge, volleyball, basketball, baggo, and bocce.

As a first-year participating team, Caretaker is hoping to raise $25,000. The firm is holding an event at Social Tap, 7318 E. Stetson Dr. in Scottsdale,  Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m.  “Jam for  Kids – Rock for a Cause,” will feature local bands.

Caretaker Landscape is holding a team building event on Jan. 24 at which its  employees will try out for a spot on the team in the Broker for Kids Olympiad competition.

Tryouts consist of fundraising and also athletic ability. As an extra incentive, the top performers will be given paid time off.

“My Uncle Jim passed away this weekend and as a tribute to him I am fundraising in his memory for Broker for Kids 2013,” said Dena Jones, director of project development at Caretaker.

“He devoted much of his life to raising money to aid critically ill children. He was a philanthropist and a leader who left an amazing legacy. He spent more than 50 years raising money for St. Jude along with Danny Thomas and I would like to give to the children as a tribute to his life.”
