Construction well underway on JOJO Coffeehouse in Old Town Scottsdale. The artsy coffee bar and restaurant is located in the newly built 2nd Street Hub buildings at 3712 N. Scottsdale Road. The new restaurant concept, which is targeted to open by early December, was inspired by owner Michael Melton’s love of coffee, food, and music.

Local entrepreneur, 2015 Arizona Small Business Person of the Year and musician, Mike Melton is delving into a new industry and will open his first eatery — JOJO Coffeehouse in Old Town Scottsdale.

“It started with an idea of how I can connect the community together and create an environment where everyone feels welcomed and at home; that’s when coffee and food came to mind as these are such great connectors of people,” explains Melton. “When we combined these together, and then added the true live coffeehouse-style feel of live music, the vision just seemed to grow exponentially and everyone we involved in our idea just lit up with excitement when we talked about it. That’s when we knew we were on to something special.”

The 2,620 square foot space, designed by Melton and built by Sterling CM, will have a rustic farmhouse vibe with an industrial twist. Melton selected an earth tone color that includes stained concrete flooring complimented by stone and repurposed wood finishes. The restaurant will have seating for up to 75 and a total capacity for 100. It will include a bar, fireplace, and stage with a 12 by 10-foot wall backdrop made of steel and barn wood. The front of the restaurant will feature two large steel and glass garage doors that will open to the outdoors along Scottsdale Road.

Diners will have a choice of two-tops, four-tops, larger family-tables and a community table that seats up to 12. Guests looking for more relaxed seating will find an array of comfortable upholstered couches and chairs. Custom lighting, sconces, table candle lights at night, and unique chandeliers will set the mood when the sun goes down.

“I wanted to design a space that feels like home,” adds Melton. “We want our customers to come meet a friend for breakfast or to hang out and work or study in the morning and then come back in the afternoon or evening to relax and unwind. It’s also a great place for a fun dinner date.”

In addition to JOJO’s proprietary roast, the drink menu will include organic teas and sodas, craft beers, wine, and signature drinks. Breakfast will feature a selection of omelettes, waffles, and bruschetta and the lunch and dinner menu will have a mix of salads, sandwiches, and craft bruschetta options that are unique to the valley that pair well with a good glass of wine.
