Cox Communications, in partnership with Valley Metro and Mesa Public Schools, will be distributing 140 computers and Cox internet service to pre-qualified students at Longfellow and Lowell elementary schools. The internet service is provided through Cox’s Connect2Compete program.

“What a wonderful opportunity for Longfellow and Lowell families to bring technology into their homes,” said Helen Hollands, executive director of technology and communication at Mesa Public Schools. “We appreciate our long-standing partnership with Cox and the Connect2Compete program, and we are excited to add Valley Metro and Ranch Market to these community events. We know their generosity will make a positive impact on the learning and achievement of our students.”

The computer equipment will be donated by Valley Metro, and Los Altos Ranch Market will be providing dinner for all participating families and giving away 50 gift cards to cover six months of Cox internet service.

“It’s important to provide our youth with yet another connection to reach their dreams,” said Scott Smith, Valley Metro CEO. “Offering students, and their families, the necessary tools to succeed opens endless opportunities for the community around the Gilbert Road Extension.”

Connect2Compete is a program offering discounted internet service ($9.95 per month) for families with at least one K-12 student qualifying for a free or reduced school lunch through the National School Lunch Program, or who qualify for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

“We know that many students currently lack access to the tools and technology they need to succeed in the classroom and their careers,” said Susan Anable, vice president of public affairs for Cox Arizona. “At Cox, we are working to bridge the digital divide by providing affordable internet service and devices to low-income families through our Connect2Compete program.”

In addition, Cox has partnered with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to support its ConnectHome initiative. Families with K-12 children who live in Public Housing, as well as K-12 families who receive Tenant-Based Vouchers, Project-Based Vouchers or Section 8 Project-Based Rental Assistance (PBRA) are eligible for Cox’s Connect2Compete discounted internet service offer.
