Hughes Federal Credit Union is donating a record-breaking $37,000 in cash to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, thanks to a successful yearlong campaign of selling candy bars at Hughes’ seven Tucson-area branches and collecting donations from members and employees. The donation is over twice as large as last year’s fundraiser.

Hughes generated $37,000 in donations as part of Credit Unions for Kids®, the most comprehensive fundraising vehicle for members of the credit union movement. Credit Unions for Kids benefits the group’s charities of choice, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Tucson Medical Center (TMC) for Children.

Hughes has supported Credit Unions for Kids since its inception in 1996, and in recent years Hughes has participated in its annual radiothon hosted by 94.9 MIXfm.

“The Tucson community is so positively impacted by work done at Tucson Medical Center and we are happy to have our donation from the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals go towards TMC’s mission of delivering the best care possible for children,” said Kellie Terhune Neely, Vice President of Marketing. “Hughes has a strong commitment to the communities we serve. As a not-for-profit, locally-owned financial cooperative, our focus is on people, not profit,” Ms. Terhune Neely continued, “We’ve more than doubled our donation from last year for TMC for Children and we anticipate that number will grow in the coming years.”

Hughes Federal Credit Union believes in giving back to the community it serves with a mission to always make a positive difference in each member’s financial life. The annual support for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and TMC for Children is made possible by Hughes staff and employees. In 2017, Hughes provided more than $127,600 in support to over 100 different local organizations within the Tucson community, thanks to the Hughes Helps Program.
