Sherman & Howard announces 4 new members
Sherman & Howard L.L.C., an Am Law 200 law firm, announced that four associates have become members of the firm.
The new members are: Cory Kalanick, and Jay Leonard, both of the Denver office, Caroline Bess Pearce of the Aspen office, and Matt Hesketh of the Phoenix office.

Matt Hesketh focuses on contractual disputes, corporate and business matters, administrative law, and appellate litigation. Matt has significant experience working with government entities, and he also represents businesses and public employers in labor and employment litigation, including discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination lawsuits.
Matt is admitted to practice in Arizona and the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona. He is on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Educational Foundation, a non-profit celebrating and honoring educational excellence in Arizona public schools. Matt also is on the executive committee for the Horace Rumpole American Inn of Court, an organization promoting professionalism in the legal community. Matt is a 2011 graduate of the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law and holds degrees in Political Science and History from the University of Arizona.
Banner MD Anderson names new division chief of surgery
Michael A. Choti, MD, MBA, FACS has been named the division chief of surgery at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert.
An internationally recognized pancreatic-hepatobiliary surgeon and surgical oncologist, Dr. Choti comes to Arizona from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Choti earned his medical degree at Yale University followed by surgical residency and surgical oncology fellowship training at the University of Pennsylvania and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He earned an MBA from Johns Hopkins in 2004.
His contributions to medical education, clinical research, medical journal publications and surgical leadership are extensive and nationally known.
Dr. Choti is an expert in the management of patients with liver, pancreatic, and other gastrointestinal cancers. He will begin at Banner MD Anderson on March 15.
McCarthy Building Companies promotes Bryan Kuster
McCarthy Building Companies Inc. recently promoted Bryan Kuster to vice president operations for the Southwest division.
As vice president, Kuster is leading collaborative project teams; managing McCarthy’s self-perform teams on lab and higher-education projects in Arizona; and ensuring project teams are delivering upon the clients’ project goals. He previously served as project director.
He is currently leading one of the most complex projects for McCarthy Southwest – the construction of the $120 million Biodesign Institute C at Arizona State University. Kuster’s extensive knowledge of the construction process been instrumental to the team’s collaborative approach, and his proactive approach to problem solving is positioning the project as one of ASU’s most successful construction projects to date.
Kuster joined McCarthy in 2005 as a project engineer. He has vast experience in education construction and has completed dozens of projects in Arizona and New Mexico over the past decade, including the LEED Gold Sedona Performing Arts Center at Red Rock High School in Sedona, Ariz. Over the next few years, his focus will remain in higher-education and bioscience projects.

Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino announces moves
• Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino has announced that Daniel Piña has joined the team as executive housekeeper. In his role, Piña will be responsible for managing costs and hiring and training staff to upholding the highest level of service within the Harrah’s culture.
• Linda Hughes McCarthy has joined Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino as hotel operations manager. She will direct the day-to-day operations of the hotel including the front office, front desk, valet services, reservations and PBX (phone system). She began her casino career in the early 80s at Caesars Atlantic City as a food and beverage cashier/shift manager. She has held a variety of positions at casino resorts across the country, including those on tribal lands.
