Dr. Nancy Chen joins UA Department of Pediatrics

Nancy Chen, MD, has joined the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson and Banner Children’s – Diamond Children’s Medical Center.

Dr. Chen joined the Division of Hospital Medicine as a clinical assistant professor. As a pediatric hospitalist, she will provide care for hospitalized children at Banner Children’s – Diamond Children’s Medical Center. Dr. Chen earned her medical degree from Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. She then completed her residency in pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco, and went on to complete a fellowship in pediatric hospital medicine from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Dr. Chen is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and has an interest in quality improvement, patient safety and pediatric hospital medicine fellowship education.

UA College of Medicine – Phoenix appoints associate deans

 

Susan Kaib, MD, and Glen Fogerty, PhD, have been appointed to leadership positions at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix. Dr. Kaib has been named associate dean of student affairs, while Dr. Fogerty has been appointed associate dean of admissions and recruitment.

As associate dean of student affairs, Dr. Kaib oversees student service aspects of the medical school. “Her commitment to our college, students and the Arizona community made her a fantastic choice for this role,” said Guy Reed, MD, MS, dean of the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix. Dr. Kaib has been with the college eight years, initially as assistant director of the Doctoring Program. She has served in various roles, including associate professor in the Department of Family, Community and Preventive Medicine, a career and professional adviser in the Department of Student Affairs and, in 2016, interim associate dean of student affairs. Dr. Kaib has been recognized by her peers for her dedication and passion for health care, including the Phoenix Gold Humanism Honor Society Faculty Award in 2015 and the Master Educator Award from the Class of 2013.

Dr. Kaib received her Bachelor’s of Science in chemistry from Arizona State University. She earned her medical degree at the UA College of Medicine – Tucson and completed her residency in family practice at Phoenix Baptist Hospital.

Dr. Fogerty has been appointed associate dean of admissions and recruitment at the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix, where he is responsible for all aspects of professional MD admissions. He helps support the medical school’s education outreach functions, working closely with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Dr. Fogerty oversees implementation of high school and college outreach activities, community and school partnerships, as well as the development of a robust pipeline program for diverse and talented students.

“Dr. Fogerty’s commitment to medical education and our students is inspiring,” said Dr. Reed. “He has achieved so much already in his time here, including leading the college to a record number of applications in 2017. I’m excited to see him implement new ways to enhance our educational outreach.”

In 2016, Dr. Fogerty was named interim assistant dean of the Office of Admissions and Recruitment and assistant professor in bioethics and medical humanism. He also serves as the co-block director for the medical school’s first course – Introduction to Medicine.

Prior to joining the UA, he held administrative appointments at Northwestern University, Arizona State University and Summit Law School. He has served as dean of graduate programs, dean of admissions and has been a member of the senior leadership advisory group at each institution. Dr. Fogerty received his Bachelor’s of Science in hospitality administration from Georgia State University and earned a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies with a concentration in higher education administration at Arizona State University.

David Simon joins UA College of Medicine

David Simon has been appointed senior director of development at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix, where he will lead development efforts to advance philanthropic priorities for the college and the Phoenix Biomedical Campus.

 

Simon comes to the UA with more than 20 years of development experience and has extensive experience in the private and public sectors. His expertise in cultivating and securing major gifts will have an immediate impact on the growth of the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix.

“We are fortunate to have David Simon lead our philanthropic efforts on the Phoenix Biomedical Campus. His vast knowledge of major gift fundraising, along with his deep understanding of academic medicine, will be a tremendous asset to this college,” said Guy Reed, MD, dean of the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix.”

Simon previously served as senior principal gifts officer at Mayo Clinic Scottsdale, securing several multi-million-dollar gifts for research and other institutional initiatives. Prior to that, he served as the director of development at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, elevating fundraising efforts during his tenure.

On the Money adds Marylou Ricigliano, Savannah Kurek

On the Money, an accounting and bookkeeping firm in Phoenix, brought on accounting professional Marylou Ricigliano. Ricigliano previously worked as a bookkeeper and tax preparer at Arrington Accounting Services in Surprise. 

“With more than two decades of experience in accounting and bookkeeping, we are fortunate to have her on our team,” said Ruth Urban, president and CEO of On the Money. “Her impressive résumé includes key positions in bookkeeping, office management, tax preparation, payroll and controller with businesses of all sizes from the East Coast to the Southwest.”

On the Money also recently hired Savannah Kurek as an executive assistant. Her background is in customer service in the financial industry and in hospitality.

“Savannah is extremely organized and detail-oriented,” said Urban. “Her service experience runs deep, ranging from the financial industry to hospitality. She brings an energetic attitude and tremendous problem-solving skills to the workplace, along with a talent for photography that’s often leveraged to support On the Money marketing efforts.”

Friends of Public Radio Arizona Welcomes New Executive Director

Phil Meyer, most recently with ValleyPBS in Fresno, California has been named the new Friends of Public Radio Arizona Executive Director. Friends of Public Radio is the non-profit, 501c3 that supports Phoenix public radio. Meyer replaces Lou Stanley who led the board of community leaders over the past 30 plus years.

“We are thrilled to have someone with such strong public media background and experience,” notes Dr. Jim Paluzzi, Vice President, Division of Public Service, Rio Salado College.  

Phil was the PBS Communications Professional of the year in 2000 and his teams have won Regional Emmy Awards and PBS Development Awards. He has also served on various boards for Public Media, education, and services for people with disabilities.

Phil Meyer began his career in public broadcasting as a college student in the design department at WGBH in Boston. He has held leadership positions at WCET in Cincinnati, Ohio, WTIU in Bloomington, Indiana, and most recently was President and CEO of ValleyPBS in Fresno, California.
